Ding on bridge

My top E snapped on my Anders negra whilst she was relaxing in her case. It's put a ding in the nitro finish of the saddle about 1mm across - bummer! Should I stress about it, try to patch it up, or pour more rum and take it easy?

Here's a photo of the ding and it's smaller brother...

Carefully smooth the edges of the wound with some 4-0 steel wool then apply with finger tip some Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil, or some equivalent. Not a big deal.

Tru oil danish oil or shellac will work well

The finish on the bridge is Nitro cellulose, so it would be the best to use. But a shellack stick will do as well.
As others have said, carefully clean the edges. It looks like parts of the edges are slightly lifted and this has to go.
Then drip in a drop or two and let it dry. Continue untill everything is covered and level.
Sand with 1200 grit or micromesh and finish of with a car polishing compound. If you are carefull, it can be finished like new.

Some say that clear nailpolish is nitro. If so, it can be used as well.

Good luck

Thanks guys for your replies. The nail polish / car polish route looks promising.

This briefly describes the key differences between base coats and top coats. Looks like top coat is the way to go - great, I have some. But I should go to the nail store anyway to get some base coat for my thumb

Interesting reading. I would never have thought of looking up nailpolish in wikipedia.
