RIP. Apart from being one of the greats of the Folk revival, he was one of the very few to make sure his music was published in proper playable guitar versions, instead of of incompetent bodges transcribed by pianists.

My condolences to his family and everyone who thinks of the folk revival fondly, myself included.

Don't know much about him, but did pick up an LP of his a few years ago and enjoyed its weirdness:

Wish I would have been exposed to more of this and less of Megadeth in my musical infancy!

It's like a train of consequences.

Ohhh .. I never knew this ..
I still have a Pentangle album somewhere . i remember transcribing one of the tunes a long long time ago ..
I also used to have a Renbourne book that i learned a few pieces from when i was about 16... but my brother lost it .. although he says I lost it ...

Anyway , I digress, Although iI never seen him play , i liked a lot of his stuff when I was younger ... I suppose the older I get , the people i listened to as a youth will start disappearing ...

Thanks for the music John.... ..appreciated

You weren't playing piano at the time were you Kiko?

I saw Pentangle in 1982 ...a reunion tour first gig at Cambridge folk festival......they were minus their drummer as he hadn broken a leg in a car crash. Great concert.
Huge talent.....has left us with some fantastic recordings thankfully.
RIP John

Kiko - I could say pretty much the same as you.

There's a nice story here:
John Renbourn: ceaseless explorer of song – appreciation
It includes a link to a documentary about the early days - with narration in Danish. Those guys are into everything

If you don't have the time or inclination to sit through that, here's a short excerpt, a nice variant of 'I know you rider':
