OK this guitar player came up in an email this week, I checked him out on Youtube, The sound is poor, but his playing is wonderful.

In this clip he moves from flamenco into a jazz standard. Not super theory heavy, because he just finds come common tonos. Right?

But I liked this because he was not tripping out on going back and forth between flamenco and jazz. It is kind of fun.

Lenny was great.

There has always been a lot more happening in Nashville than the Radio might suggest.

Some of Ted Greene's private lessons on Lenny's unaccompanied blues style are up on youtube.

Love Ted.

Smooth playing flow in a refreshing eclectic sort of way...

I notice he is using a thumb pick. I always wonder why guys like him, Chet Atkins, and others use them? They feel awkward to me, but Lenny and Chet play so natural with a thumb pick.

ORIGINAL: Morante

It is actually Fandangos de Santa Eulalia that go to A

This has always been my favourite fandango. Now it reminds me of a long night of juerga with José Millán, when we ended up in a bar at 5 am, with doors closed and 3 or 4 aficionados. Eventually José decided to sing fandangos. I know than Alosno is usually accompanied in A, but in Cádiz all are accompanied in E, to which I am acustomed. However José started in A. All went well for 20 minutes until he sang por Santa Eulalia. Since we were all rather less than sober, my befuddled mind could not think of the next chord. So I stopped playing. José stopped singing. I looked at him and said "José, I think it´s time to go home" He, even drunker than me, agreed.

Así se aprende

For some reason I have been thinking this was just one of several that uses the same type of melody. Anyway, Sevillano has a cool version that is free of compas (fandango naturales). The chord you missed was D Major!!! darn it, next time!

For more advanced but practical examples of harmony and theory, analyze this:

I would have called the A/B, B11, and the G/C Cmaj9, but it's context issue again I guess?

Interesting question. Both can be extracted from this chain I,IV/I,bVII/I and IV/I . Which is the Chuck Berry boogie pattern but instead of walking from the fifth to the seventh and back on a single tone the IV triad is added with the sixth and the bVII triad is added with the flat seventh. Gospel pianists think in terms of these platform chords a lot for ease of thinking. The voice leading is different from that used in standards.

Well you did ask.

Very cool video by the way, no way could I do that.

But I think the foro needs more member uploads. I used to really enjoy coming here to see all the wonderful and varied videos from lots of different members. There seems to be a lot less of that lately.

Agreed John... Bursche should upload more frequently. he's got a great toque. What ever happened to Florian?
