Thought I would share since it has such little views and its not very common to hear Agujetas singing Bulerias. Which also makes me wonder why didn't sing more in this style ?
RE: Manuel Agujetas Cante por Buleria (in reply to withinity)
Wow cool! I've never heared him sing por buleria. There's a part in Rito Y Geographia where his dad explains that they only sing serious "jondo" palos and kind of implies that bulerias, tangos, and other cante Chico is beneath them.

Ah yeh, that makes sense. Ive seen the recording your talking about but I didn't catch the implication lol. I guess he wanted to carry on the family Legacy.

Manuel Agujetas has the old tragic sense of flamenco that some People as Paco de Lucía an others file down (Paco said that he does not belive in a flamenco so tragic in several interviews and documentals), just because in international stages it is more easy play bulerias or solea por bulerias and because the developed the 'palos festeros' highly. i.e. "Cositas buenas" has not soleares or siguirillas. But, at the same for Camarón y el Torta, said that a right bulería is so hardest for singuers as other palos jondos because of the so difficult compás.
Because of his family, his life and envioroment, Agujetas, preserves an ancient flamenco that most of the people, internationally, is not prepared to hear. And he has always defend his point from other great singuers. "Camarón only shout", he said. And he belive that you has to have a really tragic live to sing the 'palos jondos' (El torta and others though/thing the same). and for him martinetes, solea, siguirillas, fandangos naturales etc. are the impotant palos. The skills for these palos are not only good lungs ... for the singer they are in an edge between the embarrassement (marina heredia needed 30 years to dare sing siguirillas) and a door to the darkest corners of the singer soul. And Agujetas is unique doing it.
Be sure that he sings bulerias quite well. But it is nothing compared to a good live martinete or siguirilla from him. When you are Spanish sepeaker and you hear him, it is not only music ... is other think that only PURE flamenco gets.
I love 'Luzía' from Paco de Lucía. A very different siguirilla, and it might be my favourite guitar pice. It is a wonder. But when I hear them from Manuel Agujetas, I doubt if it really is.
I he visit your city I recommed do not hesitate to hear him.
