I tend to find both in Spain and France when people make the assumption that I'm Ingles/Anglaise I correct them in a friendly way and it's often understood jokingly.

I've always been under the impression that it's normally just the British that see ourselves as British but other countries in Europe differentiate between the four nations. I hope that made sense?

Incase this sounds like I'm nationalistic make no mistake, if I had a vote in September I would have voted No. Happy to stay together.
