Sometimes dancer wants to do a double silencio, it's common to do the second one in a major key. In an alegrias guitar solo a double silencio can be really effective as a contrast from the key you are playing in. It also gives you more material. It's good to know about and have a second silencio in a major key, although most dancers don't ask for it, you can say I can do a double silencio and see if they are up for it.
A dancer would be the deciding factor unless I'm playing a solo gig and just a random choice Only came across it once with a dancer, not that I'm an overly experienced accompanist

Seems to be the way and had a few people say the same thing I learnt this major key silencio from foro member Aloysius and slightly modified some left hand It's a simple one and leads well into a castellana or escobilla .. and sounds great with another guitar ' improvising ' a melody over it
I play by myself and I like to play more silencio for the contrast, and for more material. But I didn't know how "flamenco" it was to do so. I use to just play a longer silencio. I came across the double recently and hoped the Foro community could clarify it for me.
The idea of the doble in a major key leading to the escobilla makes a lot of sense, too. Thanks for that bit of info.
Thanks AlVal, for your reply too.
If I'm playing solo in a casual setting, I figure I can drop in another silencio if I really draw out the Alegrias. Probably no one would notice. Lately I'm relaxing more with it all and just doing what I want. After all, I'm not playing for a troop, I'm no gypsy, and I don't have long hair or a puffy shirt.
