The internet prices are kept very high, especially in the non Spaniard websites to sell on a highest possible price.
Same for Condes etc. The guitars are mostly not SOLD for that exclusive prices.

Than there is always the myth that this or that builder was at his "top" in the 70 ties, 80 ties, 90 ties, Especially if you want to sell
a guitar from that year.

On internet is a lot of bla, bla.
and other people can use that, and bla, bla, and bla, bla, the same.
After a while the bla, bla, becomes bla, blah truth.........

Yes he still buid in 1990.
He seems to be retired in 1996.

I have a Gerundino from 1990 and it is very good. I like it more than the ones from the 70ties I have played on.

But also this says nothing.......try a guitar, if you like it a lot, you will not soon find another that equals it....

In 1996 Gerundino was 65 years old, age of retirement. But it was an año negro for him: he was operated for kidney stones, he fell at home and broke his femur and his wife Josefa died. In a interview with the periódico "Andalucia" in December 1996 he say he only made 3 giutars in that year. In1995, according to "El Páis", he only made 3.

RE: Gerundino prices ???? (in reply to el carbonero

I sold my Gerundino 1969 in 2002 at 3.500 €. It had some cracks and different things to repair, so that was a fair price. In 2008 I met with Vicente Carrlllo at the Frankfurt Musikmesse. He told me that price was much too low. It must have cost between 7.000 to nearly 9.000 €. So it´s not something from non-Spaniards. But what is obviously a fact that especially Americans very often provide outstanding high offers. Regarding to side costs like import tax and shipping fees I understand a higher price level compared to Europe. But playing poker to get extra high prices seems not to work. On the internet the USA is just one klick away. So thats no wonder that special expensive guitars are not sold. Even within Europe such prices are not accepted. So it´s no wonder that such guitars are not sold. I see as just as a marketing gag to make ones own a little bit bigger by selling some special guitars.

As always, until you actually try the guitar you have in mind anyone else's opinion isn't reliable. But here's mine anyway, for what little it's worth!

The Gerundino I've played from 1972, 1974, 1975 were in another league to those I tried from 1996, 1997. I'm no luthier but it seemed the 90s ones were not made by the same person as the 70s, or maybe the same person with very different methods?

(A 1969 Gerundino for €3500 is a low price, even if needing repairs)

My understanding is that Gerundino continued to make a few guitars up to 2002, but for several years he had someone else finish them. I think I read somewhere that Juan Miguel Gonzelez (Like Gerundino, from Almeria) finished some of those constructed by Gerundino from around 1996 until he quit entirely around 2002.

Cheers,

Bill

That seems to be true, but the name - by my info - is Miguel González who sometimes helped Gerundino. As I bought my 1969 Gerundino in 1995, my friend from who I bought the guitar came up again for a visit and brought a Reyes, a Jerónimo Peña Fernández and a Miguel Gonalez. One of my students was also present. He directly bought the González. It looked like my Gerundino nearly the same plantilla and headstock. But to make a difference to Gerundino, the carved sun on the headstock was only visible on the front. The back of the headstock was left blanc instead of the Gerundino that has the carving continued onto the back.

Yes, today but not in 2002. I paid around 5.000 DM. So at 3.500 € I made a profit of 2.500 €. At that time I was in bad circumstances and couldn´t wait a longer time to get money. So selling this guitar blew all away.

Strange the number of 1995, 1996 Gerundinos for sale, when he has said he only made a few

I read somewhere that Raimundo´s "Gerundina" had been stolen. Anybody know about this?

That's interesting maths there, and might start another internet myth

According to my (poor) mathematical currency understanding DM 5000.- was equivalent to € 2500.-- So you made a profit of DM 2000.- or € 1000.--

I would have to agree. I have played many Gerundinos and I think he improved until his health began to fail. Early 90s are great but later are probably false.

Nice reading on Gerundino

http://www.guitarsite.com/database/Stores/rec/471/wwwboard/messages/376.shtml

The writer seems to know him fairly well.

Ooops... Thx Ed May I correct you, just only a little bit? In 1996 5.000 DM were not 2.500 €. It was just 5.000 DM an nothing else. But in 2002, 3.500 € were 7.000 DM

Ok, I could have done my homework better

It is worth reading his biography, written by his friend Paco Urritia, in 2007, where you can find, in press accounts, details of his late output. Eladio died in June 2004.

In 1996 DM 2000.- were 1333 US$
Today € 1000.- is 1363 US$
