RE: hello (in reply to Zandunga

I found out about flamenco when my father gave me a Carlos Montoya LP. I was awe struck. I quickly went searching for more and found a 4 vinyl set of Manitas de Platas with Jose Rayes singing Moritas Moras and a cante Jondo without accompaniment. I took some time off from learning more about the art while I was in the military. Once I got out I purchased many more CDs and found out that while I love flamenco guitar I actual love the cante even more. I don't believe I will ever be a decent cantaor so I will try and amuse myself by learning some flamenco guitar. I really want to be more connected to the beyond listening to it. I feel that flamenco has in some way changed my life by sparking an interest in many different cultures and traditional music from around the world. I also figured out while listening to all my new CDs that I really do not like the Otmar Leibert or Haddad type. I mostly like the very traditional sounds and less so of 'fusion'. I understand they have an audience and respect that they actually created something it is just not my preference. One of my favorite initial albums was Morente y Sabicas Nuevo York and from there I sought out much more.

I'm originally from Central California but currently exiled in central Florida. I look forward to learning a lot from everyone and contributing what I can

I chose the name Zandunga because it is one of my favorite Mexican songs and I read somewhere that it was influenced by an Andalusian song. My favorite versions of the song sound like the singer crying.

Peace,
Dan
