Question about construction.

Dear All.
I have been searching about my question, but i could not find anything.
This is: In a flamenco guitar, what should be the distance between the strings, and the top of the guitar (watching next to the bridge)?
I have heard a lot of versions. For example some luthiers say that this distance is measured between strings and the fret number 12, and it should be 2.5 mm (approx.).
Another constructors say that that distance should be measured almost over the bridge, and appox 8 mm (distance between 6th string and the german spruce top)

When I watch pictures of any flamenco player I cant appreciate this very well, and I think this is a very interesting think to talk about.

What do you think?

Hi, welcome to the Foro - we have discussed this quite a bit here, keep searching those archives Try searching "height" - you'll get better results when you keep the search simple.

Every player is a bit different in what they prefer, and in my experience it takes some time to figure out. My current guitar is my most comfortable with a string height at the bridge of around 7mm, with approx 2.5mm at the 12th fret. I can't remember the height of mine at the soundhole, probably something like 8.5-9mm. Something else to consider that I find very important is the "pulsation" aka the feel under the picking hand. You'll find some interesting discussion on that topic as well.

Yes, try searching for "string height at bridge". All the luthiers here and several players have weighed in I think, including Ricardo.
The string height at the 12th fret is referred to as the "action" and it's a whole other topic. Both measurements are very important to playability.
