Remembering the GREAT Paco y Camaron...

I am sure this was posted a number of times, but I just can't get enough of this song, Paco de Lucia is on fire here, and really deserves every superlative we have used to describe him, while Camaron de la Isla is simply heavenly.

Thank you Paco y Camaron for the chills, goosebumps and butterflies in my stomach.... 'love your music.

yeah, great vid.

I have been re-playing their albums from the seventies, I have been listening to each one over and over so I'm only about half way through in the last week

I was really hoping some more film of them together would emerge after Paco's passing, like the solo vids we saw, but nothing so far....

Mark, I just pulled anything Paco/Camaron on Spotify, and will be listening to them tonight with a glass of Sherry. However, do you by any chance recognize the song in the video and know the title?

I have seen the vid a few times before, but I haven't gone through and checked the exact letras, so I could be wrong, but....

....I don't think it is a specific set of letras as recorded on a studio album.

if you get them the albums on cd you get lyrics in the jewel case and match them up.
alternatively you can find most of the letras by googling "camaron letras" or something similar.

when you see a vid of Paco playing solo live and people ask which track it is, it is usually a mixture of stuff recorded on different albums. usually same with cante.

also there are several live albums of Camarón accompanied by Tomatito, again you can get the lyrics from the cd's or online.

discography - Camarón de la Isla with Paco de Lucía (Their first albums were nameless, but were known among aficionados by the name of the first track):

Al Verte las Flores Lloran (1969)
Cada Vez que Nos Miramos (1970)
Son Tus Ojos Dos Estrellas (1971)
Canastera (1972)
Caminito de Totana (1973)
Soy Caminante (1974)
Arte y Majestad (1975)
Rosa María (1976)
Castillo de Arena (1977)

Live albums with Tomatito:

Flamenco Vivo (1987)
Camarón Nuestro (1994)
Paris 1987 (1999)

or the verses could be on one of these:

with Paco de Lucía and Tomatito:

Como el Agua (1981)
Calle Real (1983)
Viviré (1984)
Potro de Rabia y Miel (1992)

Great music of course; but now we know the manner of Paco’s death, it makes me wince even more to see all those ciggies, and the clouds of smoke wafting across everybody.

When I first came to California in 1974, I had a good friend who was a professional bar singer. He didn’t smoke, but his quack told him that being in that atmosphere six evenings a week was equivalent to smoking eleven cigarettes a day.

He’s dead now, of course — heart attack at 66

In that video at 1:52 is when I first felt the "chills" from cante and flamenco a few years ago, this video was really the one that "sold" flamenco for me.

I have seen the video of Cameron, Turronero, Paco Cepero, and Paco de Lucia many times, Morante, and I never tire of seeing it and listening to it, especially, Paco Cepero accompanying Cameron. For my money, Paco Cepero was as good as they come when it came to accompanying cantaores like Cameron.

Cheers,

Bill

No to downgrade the dangers of second hand smoke, but there can be more acute hazards for bar singers. Back in the early '60s I went with a friend to his gig in Austin. The place was just transitioning from country and western to '60s folkie. There was a "chicken wire" curtain between the small bandstand and the audience. I asked the bartender what it was for.

"Keeps the beer bottles the customers throw from hitting the band."

I've always wondered, is this really the only video of Paco and Camaron performing together?

With respect of Paco. His Recordings with Camaron is where I enjoy his playing the most. Much more than on his solo albums.
The two of them really blended together as a whole, something that is rare in flamenco. You can hear how the two of them really enjoy what the other is doing. Maybe because Paco was a singer wannabe and Camaron a guitarist wannabe.

IMHO, their recordings are some of the absolute highlights in flamenco history so far.
