Pedal steel

OK, I know this is a flamenco guitar forum. I play a lot of slide when I play blues, but when I listen to country, the pedal steel freaks me out. I put it down to a record I had of the Flying Burrito Brothers.

Any other aficionados?

I am a huge pedal steel fan. I almost bought one at one point.

The player that inspired me was Buddy Emmons.

I am a big Danny Gatton fan, and he made a couple of duet records
with Buddy. They did a record called "Redneck Jazz Explosion".

It totally blew my mind, and i've been a big pedal steel fan ever since.

Sorry I don't know much about pedal steel but the older I get the more respect I have for the country guys, the bluegrass guys and well all the guys really.

Danny Gatton's Strictly Rhythm Guitar is one of the very few must have instructional videos out there and his behind the neck pedal steel impression is a neat and often copied trick.

On the subject of 'Redneck Jazz Explosion' (classic title Todd) I am gonna post Scotty Anderson again in the hope that some of you out there will have the sense to be blown away. Scotty's playing is handsdown unbelievable (blues scale harmonised in sixths at 145 in seiquavers anyone).

I guess I'll check out Buddy Emmons when my ego seems robust, but I'll keep a handkerchief around just in case.

D.

As inhuman as Danny was on the guitar, he claimed nothing scared him
more than Scotty Anderson.

That guy is friggin rediculous..

I mean, picking two different lines on different strings, at the same time?????
One with a finger nail, and one with a pick?

WHAT???? Not of this earth..
