I'm going to see Vicente Tomorrow in a guitar festival (in France), he's going to play stuff from his last album (Tierra 2013) which it's very good (something new doesn't hurt :) ). I hope he will also play his taranta /solea too as an introduction like the old days :)
Some additional musicians will be there to play the instruments from the album (flute, drums ...).
After the concert a jam session is planned between musicians from different bands / music style and Vicente will be there too. I'm just curious how this is going to work out !
Anyway I will try to make some photos /videos for you and give some feedback about this concert

I dont know if they're the same guys as on the album but at least here in Portugal they sounded like the album (flute & violin). They played Tierra entirely.

Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to see Vicente when he came to Portugal a couple of months ago. My teacher loved the concert, he said it was great.

In fact I didnt expect to see it. Front row tickets were 40€ and I wasnt going to pay that (studying, no work right now).
So I sent a facebook message to the organization and on the day of the event they replied saying "sure, come on over, your name will be at the door"... so I went
Regarding the show itself, it was really nice. One thing I noticed is that Vicente has been saying the same thing between songs over the years, that it is "nice to be there with us (audience) enjoying the moment"..."disfrutando un ratito" or something like that
He even made a joke about is singing at the end of Laura, saying that is singing wasnt that good because of the microphone and then he repositioned it and sang the beggining only with his guitar.
Tangos del Arco Bajo was really powerful and everytime he did the golpe above the strings it was a total punch in the face (same thing happened in Laura).

Saw Vicente a while back: a much better concert than PdL. But he had Tino de Geraldo on drums, TWO cajones, bass, violin and a flamenco guitar at the loudest I have ever heard without feedback.

Never quite understood why Vincente basically only plays songs off his newest release for the most part. I get playing a few songs off Tierra as it's his newest but not playing every song verbatim from the cd. Every concert I've seen from him on youtube and now his newest tour just re-affirms this depending what year it's from. The guy has to know people want to hear pieces all through the years and mix it up a bit.

Half of the show were older songs, at least here in Portugal.

Hello everyone
As promised some feedback about the concert :
- first the sound was good and loud but it could have been slightly better from my point of view - second : the setlist :
-Mensaje (fandangos from vivencias imaginadas) : a good surprise - tangos del arco bajo (tangos from un momento en el sonido) - autorettrato (bulerias from paseo de gracia)
- from Tierra : almost everything except rom, cancion del laura
- final : a big bulerias with different falsetas (gitano del lucia, and some stuff from paseo de gracia
- about the band : Rafael de utrera was absent I don't why, another cantaor was there nothing really special about him, like often in flamenco he was clearly out of tune on some parts (specially part written from female voice I believe).
Dyingsea : to tell you the truth I don't think Vicente can play hist most technical stuff nowadays (from vivencias : el mandaito for instance and he doesn't play tremolo anymore ) it's like paco (which I saw) he 's not going to play cepa andaluza anyway ...
Conclusion : a good concert with a lot of bulerias not my best in flamenco (that would be rocio marquez + juan ramon caro) but it was enjoyable.

Here in Portugal, Tangos del arco bajo and Autoretrato were great but Laura was an highlight, thats for sure
He closed with Roma which was a bit crappy since he played it like in the album (ie. with no guitar solos)... its like going to a Steve Vai concert and watching him only playing chords right before he exits the stage.

Hey Kasey could you imagine a third breed between Steve, Vicente and Derek Zoolander all standing in front of a large fan on stage in the royal Albert hall London....imagine the faces we would experience.!!
RE: Going to see Vicente tomorrow wi... (in reply to sim999)
Vicente doesnt need a fan, he has the "close your eyes and face the ceiling" thing going on. Seems to be efective at taking the hair out of the way, no need for a fan.

I think he may be taking advantage of the loads of guitarists in the audience trick. They all blow out ...usually upwards as he does something amazing and he looks up at that very moment ,thus taking advantage of the rebound down draft!!? Best

I have to come clean.......I was there ,just behind you . We did share a glance or two as the evening progressed. I was wearing a tight black dress ,black heels ( 7 inch , my lucky number) and a red wrap around. I was told that the only way to get backstage at a Vicente gig was to adopt the role of the mid forty something slapper/groupie....this didn't work and I spent the tail end of the evening eating a portion of chips down the local docks. I hope your evening was more of a success?
