Hi from España!

Greetings everyone,

Been playing the guitar on and off for many years, mainly hard rock/metal. About a year and a half ago I wanted to get back into playing again, however perhaps with my age my music tastes changed somewhat and found myself listening to more classical guitarists so I picked up a classical guitar and started learning the different techniques, fingerpicking etc...

November 2012 was the month I moved to Valencia, Spain from the UK and in time here I've found myself drawn to Flamenco. I wish I knew years ago the different sounds that are achievable on acoustic guitars, percussion is something that is really interesting me.

Anyway I've found this forum whilst Googling for various artists and pieces of music so thought I'd join up and say Hello :-)

Thanks, and Yes! The name is from Bolo Yeung I thought he was great in that movie and the name has been my usual forum ID for many years :)

Yep I totally agree, Those early days when I managed to play the first bar to Metallica's Seek & Destroy or AC/DC's Hell Bells were great times :-)

With Flamenco, it feels like I'm starting again somewhat, which isn't a bad thing, on the contrary it's quite exciting!

This was my feeling exactly... it was like starting to learn the guitar all over again... and to some extent, it's true. There are many new things to learn and quite a few things to unlearn as well.

Mostly little things I picked up whilst playing electric guitar for over 10 years. Examples would include the left hand's thumb over the neck to fret the 6th string (pretty common with electric guitar players, but a no no in flamenco), not necessarily fretting the strings with the tip of my fingers, and the proper fingerings for scales... there are obviously different takes on such matters, and different approaches will suit different people, but I find that taking the time to unlearn those things and learn them again properly has proven to be a great benefit in the long run... even my playing on my electric guitar has improved as a result!
