I'm going to be in Granada the entire month of August.
I know that this is probably the worst time to go to Spain for flamenco due to it being vacation time for the Spaniards but I'm a teacher and this is when I have the time.
I'll be staying with friends in the city center as well as in 'la zubia' (on the outskirts about 5-10 min from town).
I really want to find some flamenco to go see, especially cante. Any festivals or penas that I could check out that might be active during this time? or any festivals in surrounding Andalucia? I will have access to a car so anything within a couple of hours would be doable.

Granada in August ... Practice your slow strolling technique. I've spent 8 months there altogether and totally love the place - last time was may-June last year. It was hitting 43 degrees on the street at the beginning of afternoon break before I left, and reportedly was hitting 49 degrees in August. I don't ever want to see that. I can see how siesta evolved, but it is so at odds with my own tendency to want to go out and do things at lunchtime that I don't think I'd ever adjust.
Looking forward to the report. This year is the first in four that I had no plans to go, and it feels strange.
