Going to be in Granada in August

I'm going to be in Granada the entire month of August.

I know that this is probably the worst time to go to Spain for flamenco due to it being vacation time for the Spaniards but I'm a teacher and this is when I have the time.

I'll be staying with friends in the city center as well as in 'la zubia' (on the outskirts about 5-10 min from town).

I really want to find some flamenco to go see, especially cante. Any festivals or penas that I could check out that might be active during this time? or any festivals in surrounding Andalucia? I will have access to a car so anything within a couple of hours would be doable.

Thanks,

Matthew

Granada in August ... Practice your slow strolling technique. I've spent 8 months there altogether and totally love the place - last time was may-June last year. It was hitting 43 degrees on the street at the beginning of afternoon break before I left, and reportedly was hitting 49 degrees in August. I don't ever want to see that. I can see how siesta evolved, but it is so at odds with my own tendency to want to go out and do things at lunchtime that I don't think I'd ever adjust.

Looking forward to the report. This year is the first in four that I had no plans to go, and it feels strange.

Great. Thanks for the info guys. Looks like there are quite a few options. I'll report back as my trip progresses.

Hopefully this uploaded ok, Eshavira festival this summer. Also there should be flamenco del verano every night in the Corral del Carbon, always brilliant artists. Also Chumbera Theatre does good shows in summer. the Peña should be open to public thursday night. late night cine, often flamenco films at the Cave museum top of Sacromonte. Loads going on in the summer. Tonight Paco de Lucia playing :)
