RE: Student error number 1 (in reply to rogeliocan

oooh yeah i read most of his page .....

some phrases that stuck in my mind were.....guide to playing Spanish guitar , even if you havent a clue how to speak Spanish ....

so them 2 things are inextricabley linked ....So now I am going to start my course ..

How to learn to speak Spanish even if you cant play the guitar !!!

and I actually belive his claim of .......
''All you need to play Spanish guitar 'just like me ...That’s exactly what you get with this course.'''

cant argue with that ....so long as you want to play like him ,, thats fine ....

I wonder if you need B maj ...Ricky Gervais guitar course says no .....

I shouldn't really ...Im going to have to ban myself from this thread .....

It could be worse... but I see your point Rogelio.

However, I disagree with you guys. I mean, it is terrible if you want to learn Flamenco, there's no doubt about that, but this is ideal for those folks who never played an instrument and want to learn some simple tunes with a "Spanish flavour". In those cases I see no point in learning all the techniques correctly, it would just demotivate people. Guitar is a terrible instrument to learn (especially Flamenco, as we all know), there's no need to complicate if all you want is learn some nice simple tunes.

No , Fred , sorry , he specifies .....

'''Who This Course Isn’t For

If you’re a complete beginner on guitar and can’t even change chords yet then give this course a miss for now. You really need to spend more time on the bare basics....etc ..ect''''

So you are already comfortable with the guitar , to a certain degree at least .....

Missed that part, I only saw the video. The guy makes no sense at all saying that. He says he doesn't want complete begginers but all he is gonna get is absolute beginner students, because all he teaches is basic beginner stuff. So I maintain my opinion, this might be good for people who never played an instrument and ONLY want to learn some simple tunes.

By the way, rest assure he won't reject any student, complete beginner or not.

I have to admit he is honest about what you get: play just like me.... flamenco style... Never says flamenco per se. It is just bizarre to me that you would start something with half ass goals in mind. I can understand that you start something and discover you can't put the effort towards it but to start off like that, to me is just weird. And what if you do start flamenco and find out that it is too much work, do you go and take this course? Doubt it.

Edit:
I'm thinking of examples. You go in a music store you see three teachers showing you what they will teach you. Do you go for the worst one?

You're in a bar, do you go for the ugly girl first (sorry if that is bad taste but it's true), no, you go to her last, if you are drunk enough.

Well I notice his 3 reference students are aged between 52 and 60....that might have something to do with it .....

Also ' ..The key to achieving an authentic Spanish guitar tone...(wonder why he never used this key himself ..?? ummm.)

other interesting facts on his site are...

How many rest days I take a week......( !!!!!?????)

Why I never worry about practicing .............

Why the way I practice on guitar is very similar to someone going to the gym! ( I hope he doesnt do boxing or his guitar will be in a right mess by now ...)

How much beer i drink after practising ...nah .. . I just made that one up . ..pity really cos that sounds more like something i would sign up for that one...

Of course not, but in some cases that may not matter. Imagine an old folk who just retired and wants to give guitar a try. He will probably get a cheap guitar and look for a teacher that fits his needs. He doesn't need to have Gerardo Nunez as his teacher if he just wants to learn a couple of simple tunes, so he will probably go for the cheapest lessons.

That's a different story...

Haha true. That's exactly what this lessons teach.

Anyway, this guy sucks and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone, but there's nothing wrong with him giving "lessons", in my opinion.

Fred I get the feeling the old guy will have met a real Spanish guitarist at some point and he will have learned so much about flamenco philosophy that he will be more expert than any teachers he encounters, even though he cant play. He will also own several guitars at least one of which could be used for concerts. And if you upload a video for his benefit he wont even go to the trouble of watching it.

D.

PS I can play just like that video, but I have to smoke an awful lot first, or maybe swallow a handful of diazepam.

PPS apparently a new form of diazepam has been released which has precisely the opposite effects of valium, can anyone guess what it is called ?

You that's right Rubendiazepam
sorry.

Ya you would still be wearing your pajamas too, if your caffeine addicted neighbour woke you up at 3am to show you the "Paco De Lucia technique".
