bruises under nails

Kind of a weird question:
since about one year i've that problem: everytime I'm doing rasgueados and m-golpes I get bruises under my nails. I use Savarez Nail Kit to strengthen the nails, but without a big improvement of the situation. Two things that make me wonder:
1. I did not had these issues since years, but at one time they appeared suddenly, without changes in technique
2. I'm not playing that hard (in comparison to others without any issues)

Do you have an idea?

Do you use blood thinners? (Pills to make your blood thinner)

Also a low blood sugar level can make you bruse easyer.

I don't use blood thinners.

Do you mean I can solve the problem with a higher blood sugar level? Should I eat more choclate or what?

Use more coats of nail glue than you are now. Brush on cyanoacrylate.

Did you had comparable issues Ricardo?
I'm not sure if I have a wrong technique or just very thin nails.

Still when i started to accompany dancing (playing lots of rasgueado without using any glue in the beginning) the only drawback was that my nails became polished and as a result became thinner and thinner, up to a point where they were almost gone and problematic pressure pain on the nail plate occurred...but never bruises (as far as i remember). That's why and when i started to use super glue (like it is called in the Netherlands or also secondenlijm >seconds-glue).

There also seems to be a surgical variant developed for the human skin but i don't no much about it (if i remember well either the cyano- or the crylate part was replaced by an other component...not sure it is of better use for guitar players).

If you are in the UK, Superdrug sell it in the nail section, look for nail glue. I use it for repairs but prefer Opi Nail Envy as an everyday protective coat.

Your post makes me wonder if it's actually possible to have bruises under your nails... maybe it's something else (like a wart or something like that) that needs different care...

Just thinking out loud though...

Actually, I've used cyanoacrylate/super glue for many years now - It's the "brush on" part that I did not understand. Seems to me it would destroy a brush the first time you used it...Or maybe it comes in an applicater bottle like nail polish? I would like to see that. Please inlighten me about this, thank you.

That's Krazy glue....and the skin variant is no variant except package. Same stuff. "liquid bandaid" is another term.

THe brush is not destroyed as long as you keep it closed and fresh in a plastic bag.

I've always thought Krazy Glue mess up the nails what are your experiences with that?

Don't mean to steal Ricardo's thunder, and he might have some good information to add regarding his own experience with Krazy Glue. Paco de Malaga told me about Krazy Glue several years ago, and I have used it since then. Using the brush-on type (brush applicator attached to screw-on cap), I brush it on each of my right-hand nails, first along the edge of the nail, and then on the top of the nail about 1/4 inch in width. After about five days, a bit may chip off on a nail or two. I just file over the rough, chipped part and re-apply a layer of Krazy Glue. Do not apply Krazy Glue to the entire nail, as it is not necessary and might be a problem for the health of the nail. But a 1/4 inch application on the nail has served me well and has not resulted in any nail problems.

I use brush on nail glue which is the same exact thing. It acts like second skin, no harm to skin or nails. You wear off the glue instead of nail material when playing. WHen it dries hard, it curves the nail into a more ideal shape for filing too. The only problem is it is so tempting to scrape it off or bite it off etc...DON'T do that!!!! Just let if flake off naturally, and as it does apply more...if you have to play. Allow some serious drying time. 15-20 min before playing. I normally apply in car on the way to the gig so it dries while driving.
