Which tuning fork to prefer?

Do more people use the A or E tuning fork to tune the guitars?

I dont use a tunigfork.. And havent seen people using it for a loooong time.. I saw tomatito on stage using a digital tuning aparato. All people I know use a digital one. Some only for one string, and they do the others with ear. Use a digital tuner.

I have been using an A 440 for years which tunes the first string fifth fret. I'm just wondering if the E would tune the first string in open since I've never used one. But I don't think I would go digital in this case! Thanks for the advice.

Well where do you position the fork if E is an open string? You'll have to position it at the 12th fret though. Anyway what difference does it make? Just change your method of tuning when using different forks. I've only used A forks by the way.

Tuning forks have been used for years. I used them for many years, tried pitch pipes and electronic tuners, as well as tune by ear.

The A fork is the most popular that I have seen and used to tune a guitar. I always bring a tuning fork with me when I am going to play guitar away from home. You never know when a battery will give out and besides they are truly “environmentally friendly”. Besides a tuning fork is so much lighter than my Steinway Piano! Give me an "A"!

After striking the fork I like to place it on the sound board, bridge or just on top of the fifth string slightly behind where the string meets the nut.
