i keep hearing mexico mentioned everytime his name is mentioned..

oh ok, i did a search he was born in madrid ...but ....

i guess thats why i had mexico stuck in my head...before today i never really read his bio...interesting

There are several from my neck of the woods (New Mexico) that quietly go about entertaining folks with their wonderful flamenco music, such as, Ricardo Anglada, Joaquin Gallegos, Calvin Hazen, Daniel Ward, Mario Febres, Kevin Romero, Gabriel Osuna.... And we to have many singers from Santa Fe and, of course, Vicente Griego who lives in Albuquerque.

I studied with Val for my four years at Yale, great guitarist and a super nice guy! I'm sure he's in that conversation along with guys like Ricardo, Jason and Pedro Cortés.

David Serva is in another league but I think the guy's more Andaluz than American at this point When I met him for a lesson in Jerez last year he was in the Plaza de Plateros shooting the breeze with some old Spanish guys, it took me a few minutes of talking to him before I realized he was from the States! He's a fantastic teacher too, very adept at teaching you whatever you want and just at the right skill level, with a good eye for fixing technical issues too.





Oh, and Benise of course.

I studied with Jose Ramos when i first started to learn flamenco guitar. He is a very nice guy and really knows his stuff.

I heard McGuire took a few lessons with Michael Tolley back in Dallas in the mid 1980's

Ethan Margolis is the best.
