Help Mariano Cordoba's widow

It has recently come to my attention that Mariano Cordoba passed away a few months ago. Foro member Ricardo has a good idea on how to help Mrs. Cordoba, digitize all of Mariano's work, set up a website where copies can be sold. Mrs. Cordoba could have amazon or scribd copy Mariano's work and sell it through their respective websites, this option is more of a financial burden. Or some of us foro members could dedicate our time Mrs. Cordoba.

Proposals:

1. Someone that knew Mariano or his wife contact Mrs. Cordoba and ask her if she wants our help. Let her know what her options are.

2. If Mrs. Cordoba does want our help than we need volunteers, the more volunteers the easier the work.

I've got Mariano's book, Traditional Flamenco Guitar Vol. 1, the means to copy it and offer my services to Mrs. Cordoba. I look forward to your replies and thoughts.

Interesting idea.

Contact the San Jose Flamenco Society and see if there is anyone who knows how contact or speak to Sra. Cordoba. I'll ask a few of my friends who studied wit him if they know anything. Or it looks like Mark 2 from the Foro knows how to contact.

But the price should be the same as the book. It's important to check and see if the publisher is interested in putting out a new edition. A petition or letter/email campaign to the publisher could also spur on a new edition if the popularity seems worth while.

Someone should check first and foremost to see if the book is currently out of print. A reedition would ensure long lasting royalty payments to his family, but it would not be a fortune. I think more as a gesture to say thank you and honor Sr. Cordoba for his life's work.

I´m very sorry that he passed away. By all the ideas that still may come I would spend a thought on the situation about Mrs Cordoba. Mariano was a renound capacity in the flamenco world. So I can imagine that he has done everything to secure his family respectively his wife. Before we would create ideas for supporting her, we should know about her financial background. If she is not needy, then it won´t be neccesary to help her.

Another thought is the aspect whether the turnover given to her needs to be taxable. Maybe there are laws that may take influence on receiving money. For example in Germany as a welfare recipient you can keep just a very small part and the rest is taken by the social welfare office. But with the major part of money I don´t want to benefit the state! Such process of support needs to be planned very carefully in its transaction.

If Mrs Mariano is not needy, I would ask if it is right to honor Mariano´s work by money.

All good points. Sometimes good intentions and help can be annoying or insulting. Perhaps step 1 could be simply contacting the publisher (Sam Fox in NYC?) to learn if indeed they still own it, more copies may or may not be printed, if they would have interest (if they are owners AND want to re print) in digital sales of portions, etc. If so, could it be licensed in a way a web site owner can handle it all pay percentages to Fox and author (widow)? If there is positive feedback on those channels, then it could be simple as whoever is doing the online operation mail a check to her, and handle the rest of tax payments etc. If it turns out that Sam Fox is not interested but has no problem giving permission for the project (a possiblity) THEN the widow would need to be contacted to see if such a thing would interest her etc.

Exactly what you guys said, contact the publisher first. A whole bunch of people asking for the book to be reissued would be a big honor to his work.
