Cante Rafael Romero

I've found some great singers on Youtube. I love Youtube BTW, but this man really caught my attention, what a beautiful tenor voice he had, There are other examples of his cante on there but this one takes the biscuit

Raphael was always my favourite cantaor. He also does a really fine Cana.

He was a gypsy from Jaen, Andalucia. I have several older recordings of him on vinyl LP's.

Fantastic flamenco voice, and interpretation. . .

Rafael Romero was one of the great cantaors of the past. Here he is singing Siguiriyas. It doesn’t get any better than this.

He is accompanied by Perico del Lunar Hijo – one of the two greatest flamenco guitarists I have ever heard, along with Perico Padre.

Here Perico’s playing shows what great flamenco guitar is all about – a room full of virtuosos cannot touch this kind of magnificent playing.

Very nice video. Great to actually see Raphael performing informally. . .

Many of my old 1950's recordings are with Perico el del Lunar the older. ( The one who really had the mole).

There's a Rafael Romero CD in the Grandes Figuras de Flamenco series on Chant du Monde. CD Universe has it for $10.95.

Romero was the usual singer at Zambra in Madrid in the 1950s. In the crowd there was usually a liberal sprinkiing of guys in tweed jackets and horn rimmed glasses, with their dates wearing plaid skirts, cardigans and clunky shoes. Aficion for flamenco was a form of silent protest by left wing intellectuals against the Franco regime.

Wow, I don't have to listen to any more flamenco after that. He was also loving the guitar it seems, Romero.

I'd like to hear the rest of the Pe......ta....ner
