Gong Xi Fa Cai to all. "Kong Hee Fatt Choy" to our Cantonese speakers. Thanks for remembering, Britguy. Actually, many of us GuaiLos enjoy celebrating Chinese New Year as well. I have celebrated many a Chinese New Year in Malaysia and Singapore, and I still consider both to have the finest variety of food (Malay, Chinese--including "Nonya" or "Straits Chinese", and Indian) of anywhere in the world. Cheers, Bill

quote:
can you confirm the complete (and especially the dutch) Chinese community embraces your 4711.... or can 4710 be correct as well in some lines/locations? I KNEW you would check with Wiki. And you' re right, there are some differences of opinion as to exactly what (Chinese or Lunar) year we are in. And I lay no claim no any expertise in this. All I can add is that ( through selling my Asian Pears and other fruit) I have many Chinese ( and other Asian) friends and customers. And they tell me it's "4711". (And I think if you check the on-line "free Ecard's" people, you'll find their cards have it as 4711, also). But, maybe in other areas of the world, whatever, wherever, it might in fact be a counted as a different year? After all, our generally accepted "AD2014" may be questionable, too. Depending on which ancient calendar one uses to count. . .
