If the Ramirez really is french polished as he says, it might not be a good thing. As far as I know, all of Ramirez's guitars from this time period were lacquered with catalyzed polyurethane. All of the dozens I have seen have been. Richard Brune once mentioned to me that refinishing a guitar (that was already a good one) from lacquer to french polish came with a serious risk of "killing it". I hadn't proposed to have that guitar refinished, but Brune had seen a few that had been damaged in the process of going from lacquer to french polish. While on the subject, though, I will mention that I played two cedar/cocobolo classicals at Arturo Huipe's shop in Paracho. According to Arturo they were identical except one was french polished, the other lacquered in nitrocellulose. They certainly looked alike, except for the finish. The nitro guitar didn't do much for me. It seemed quiet and dull. l bought the french polished one, a good deal at $1800 I thought. It's louder than other guitars in that price range, and has a nice tone, but not quite the tonal variety of a real concert classical. RNJ
