Question about Tangos rasgueado

On beats 6-7 of a tangos falseta I have just started learning (yes, a new palo!), Granados has...

quote:

p(down) + p(up)-x(down)-i(down) + p(up)-i(down) + a rest

I am using...

quote:

p(down) + p(up) m(down)-p(down) + p(up)-m(down) + a rest

Mainly because I have been practising the abanico ("fan") rasgueado on my Guitar Mute and also because I severed nerves in my right hand when I was young and find the tabbed method painful; I have no feeling in x and a. A bottle of Pastis went through my hand in France, but that's "une autre histoire"

What do you guys do for that Tangos flourish?

Simon,
quote:

p(down) + p(up) m(down)-p(down) + p(up)-m(down) + a rest

I'm not clear on what beats these are. Are they 5,6,7,8? I'm sure the way you're playing it is fine. Watch 3 different guitarists play tangos and you'll see 9 different ways to play this. I'm really not exaggerating: p(up) m(down) p(down) p(up) occupies the same amount of space as a(down) m(down) i(down) i(up), for example. A given guitarist may play it one way in one cycle and another way in the next cycle. That p, x, i ras that Granados is using is what he's comfortable with. I could never play that, because I have a very weak x. I think PdL uses it also, but I've never actually seen anybody use it. My teacher's son does a rasgueado using p(up) m(down) i(down). That, to me, is extremely awkward, but he's very comfortable with it. At my first lesson my teacher told me that rasgueados and alzapua are very personalized techniques. Always keep that in mind.

Could you post an audio sample of the whole cycle the way you're comfortable playing it? The most important thing is how it sounds.

That's the one, a golpe on 1 and a rest on 8. What's a cierre?
