manzanero guitar

anyone have a indepth knowledge of these ? I have a chance to buy a 1976 manzanero especial 2s. Is this the student model> How do I know if it was built by felix or a understudy? or perhaps in Valencia and not in the manzanero workshop? the seller wants 3k and wondering if that is a fair price for it. let me know thanks.

At 3k it is unlikely to have been made by Manzanero.

The use of the number makes me think its a 2nd level guitar and then it can be made by whatever luthier or apprendice.
Maybe you´ve read some of the threads here on the forum and then you´ll know that it can be very difficult to find out.
Most decent luthiers didn´t sign the guitars unless they had made them themselves. But you never know. Back in 76, Spain was VERY poor and everyone desperate to make some money, so all tricks were used.

Here is a photo of a 1970 Felix Manzanero; you might compare to the label of your prospect guitar. I have not seen a "2a" by Manzanero.

rickm--below is a link to a manzanero built in 1970 and below that is manzanero's website. the label and signature appear to be legit. manzanero worked for jose ramirez who prior to 1970 identified his guitars as 1a and 2a and manzanero may have been following suit--a 2s being the equivalent of a 2a. manzanero, as i understand via reading posts here and elsewhere by those who know him, has a solid reputation and it is likely he built the guitar in question. that said, he has a web site so why not send him an e-mail and inquire.

rick, zavaleta's is a dealer in the usa who has sold a few manzanero and would be a good person to ask about the guitar in question. here is a link.

c.vega is a good source for such things--maybe he will chirp in. you could try posting at acguitar in the classical section.
