HELLO From north wales

Hello All

Just introducing myself, ive been playing guitar about 5yrs, messing about first then
learnt a few classical pieces by tab of which i can only remember one,but i always liked the more "deeply spanish" sounding ones, and once i heard a flamenco piece ive concentrated on nothing else for the last 2/3 yrs..ish,

to be honest i like the type of freedom flamenco brings and im glad i never went for classical lessons as i think its too rigid, so anyway im teaching myself which aint always easy but here in england and north wales us flamenco guitarists seem to be a bit on our own.

by the way i a have a tomatito model la canada guitar, if anyone has this same model could you tell me your action height as the people i bought it off said they had their luthier raise the action because it was too "low", which im not sure about now as they were classical guitarists not flamenco and classical guitars i know have a higher action

Hola miker,

Welcome to the fork. There are tons of people from the UK here, some really great players too so maybe soon you wont feel so "on your own". Glad your steering away from that classical business, they play too close to the sound hole anyways . I think you'll find though that flamenco has it's own set of rigid rules too but there tends to be a lot of exceptions to them. As far as action on the guitar, check this thread out:
http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=64869&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=action&tmode=&smode=&s=#65176

The search function here is great, I found that in less then a minute.

Keep on truckin man!

Welcome miker

There's no need to feel lonely
Lenador is correct, there are lots of UK players out there and this forum is also a fantastic resource.

If you're not too far from the North West of England the Manchester area has a concentration of like-minded guitarists and a 'scene' is starting to develop.

Have a look at: http://www.flamencomanchester.com/

The tomatito guitars are the same as the paco guitars. they just switched names to make some moe bucks. i never eard about anybody raising the action of a flamenco guitar. normally they are higher when you buy so that you can adjust yourself. but never the other way around. in flamenco the action is lower better anyways.

Hi Miker, I'm the one out on a limb here in Blackpool! You are in a good place on the forum anyway.

thanks everyone for the welcomes, and doitsujin this was exactly what i was thinking is flamenco guitars have lower action so why did they raise it?, they said it was too low but was it really to low or low compared to the classical sound they are used too,

Maybe ill get another saddle sometime and lower it that way i can always put the other back in if i mess things up.

They may have just shimmed it up, there's a toothpick size piece of rosewood under my saddle. I bought the guitar used so I don't know who did it. That would be ideal for you, just pull it out and see how it sounds...........
