Jose Merce - Mi unica llave

Very impressed with my first few listens to Jose Merce's new album. The Bulgarian (I'm guessing) choral singing on 'Martinete Balkanico' might result in a few wrinkled nostrils but I think it works brilliantly well. The same goes for the violinist (I think he's Jordanian) on the fandanguito of the title. Merce's got Pepe Habichuela, Tomatito and Diego on there as well as a nice bit of jazzy piano. Quite often it sounds like the whole thing - and not just the buleria 'Morao' - is something of an elegy for Moraito. Not for the earnest, stick-up-the-rectum flamenco police but a really intensely-felt piece of work. Toma ya!
