Just strung up #3 and compared the color. Decided to try amber this time. What are your preferences on French polish colour? I think I prefer the amber myself... Seems warmer somehow...

For the orange one, did you do the "clear --> color --> clear" steps, or did you just go straight to the color (orange)? I've read that going straight to a darker shellac might lead to blotchy spots. Just wondering if you ran into any issues with that?
I went straight to the amber actually. I think as long as the surface is evenly sanded i.e. very smooth there should be no issues with blotching. To be safe it's probably a good idea to do the first spit coat with blonde tho. I may try a more orange finish sometime soon and then I would definitely start with light blonde.
