I have just seen what could well be the most amazing flamenco fingerstyle performance that I have ever witnessed on youtube! The guy is playing a Chapman Stick which I have never seen before but the multi-layered sound is quite beautiful.

I have run into that guy here in Phoenix and also up in Edmonds, Washington. Has a cool jazzy album, I think it's called Cafe San Francisco. Yes, here's his website. http://stickmusic.com/ The first time I saw him, I had just run into George Benson for the nth time.

This is not flamenco. While his playing on this instrument has a certain capacity to "amuse," it belongs more in the genre of cheap parlor tricks that might go over at a party attended by frat boys looking forward to their first backpacking trip to Spain.
Cheers,
Bill

probably the best one i have ever seen too...its the only one
personally i think its fascinating ...nice enough sound...a nice novelty
That aside..
I dont understand why anyone picks up this instrument when its just trying to copy the guitar (from what i am seeing), and play stuff for guitar on it and dosent have as many benefits, its not a practical, not as esthetically pleasing... (like a skinny woman with no breasts...or a giraffe penis) not as versatile, not as established, not as romantic, probably not as easy ...the guitar is a the perfect design...i dont see the point other than to be different...for the sake of being different...guitar is king of instruments (or up there)...this is the type on instrument u expect to see on the side of the road busking as a novelty..people are fascinated, curious ...but eventually put a coin in the bag and walk away...
i am sorry fingerstyle if this is you, not looking to offend you...had you said that before of course i would have been more gentle and tactful about it

Exactly Flo!
Like, sometimes I get emails from a "friend" of Dr. Nkumna Abongo from Nigeria asking me if he can "borrow" my bank account to get £10,000,000 out of his country.
Why doesn't Dr. Abongo just contact me himself?
That kinda stuff always makes me suspicious, myself.
Hey...thought some new folk here might have commented on the 21 year old Paco de Lucia's Malagueña!
You won't hear it anywhere else!
(and not really "cheesy" methinks?")
Recorded straight off the TV set in 1969.
(He looked that real "spotty" way like the pic on "La Guitarra Fabulosa...." )

I have been waiting for you since to contact me for your Confirmable Bank Draft of $500,000,00 United States Dollars, but I did not hear from you since for a couple of weeks now. Then I went to the bank to confirm if the draft has expired or getting near to the expiring date and Dr. Wilson the Director United Bank for Africa told me that before the draft will get to your hand that it will expire..Again, don't be deceived by anybody to pay any other money except $85.00 US Dollars for the Security Keeping Fee. I would have paid that but they said no because they don't know when you will contact them and in case of demurrage.

I think the stick, being a strange looking and sounding instrument, is best suited to a more "out there" musical environment ala Tony Levin in King Crimson. Years ago I jammed a few funky tunes on stage with a stick player, they can be a lot of fun in the right context.

Change your name from "Florian" to "Goodluck".
Hey, Ron,
Coincidental to your and Flo's encounters with Nigerian scams, and your suggestion that Flo change his name to "Goodluck," the current president of Nigeria is named Goodluck Jonathan. I don't know if that was what you were alluding to, but it's a fact.
Cheers,
Bill

Wasn't a clarinet always known as a "stick"?
In the States we referred to it as a "licorice stick."

apparently its like a whole other world the chapman stick world, quite fascinating...just did some google searching...
this is their like their Paco...cause why use one stick instrument only 10 strings when u can have 20...honestly ...forget the wood and frets...just give this guy a sea of strings...its quicker to learn guitar than change the strings
I am sorry i am being very immature about a different instrument
