Today ive read a newsletter which i normally never do. Just in that newsletter there was his concert announced. Im sure i would have missed the opportunity had i not read it (im actually in a hole atm where nobody can see or hear me; also known as studying for exams). So excited about this, ive seen Paco, Tomatito and Gerardo. And now Vicente who is the 4th heavy figure in flamenco i think.
He will actually play in the same venue as Tomatito did, and let me acknowledge you, the sound and ambience is just superb. I just hope he doesnt sing half of the concert ahaha.

Although I find very boring to hear his "wiggly wiggly" left hand trick on all the songs all the time, I would see him if he came to Portugal.
My jaw droped when I heard and album he did with El Pele, "Fuente del jondo" or something like that.. it doesnt sound like his watered down solo albuns at all, I would say that it doesnt even sound like VA but it is awesome :p

I didnt say it was easy.. but it gets hard to listen and not getting sleepy. except for the first album where all songs are great and the production sounds good. The other albuns sound to sweet and reverby, Ive been listening to the last one and I can only say that it has good moments but nothing to write home about.

ORIGINAL: Munin I wonder how Vicente's shows are, hopefully a bit more "raw" than the solo albums.
does it mean you DONT have the dvd Ciudad de las ideas? Its one of the best flamenco dvds available, the soundquality is just mind blowing, its like having him playing next to you. I can understand the watered down ciritcism, but i think that only counts for his rumbas tangos etc. He can play solea, buleria just as jondo as anybody else IMO (although he chose a different path in composition). And yes, people should really check out his accomp material first. His solo albums are only half of his music out there.

Marianne how did you like the concert? It was maybe the best one in terms of solo guitar i have ever attended to. My favorite track was the encore bulerias in A though. And the one in Bm was nice too, with frettless bass which fitted well in that slow piece. I liked that everyone on stage did sing at least one time. Had a great time meeting up with Jakob (jof) from the foro and jamming with him a at the Rhine. Vicente was so friendly after the concert giving everyone an autograph.

Hi Deniz, I think the concert was amazing. Vicente is a wizard with his guitar. And although I like his music very much, I came more to see Daniel Navarro dancing. He really is a wizard with his feet. I took dance classes with him earlier this year and spoke to him after the concert when Vicente was giving autographs. We did some pictures, also with Vicente and it was really nice. They are all so kind! Hope to see him dancing again soon.
