Living In Spain

Hi Friends,

I'm going to take the plunge and live in Spain for ~ 6 months. My goal is really two fold: 1) grab onto the best flamenco guitar school/instruction that I can 2) raise my level of spanish speaking 3) enjoy life for the opportunities that come.

So... i'm interested to hear the hot instruction teaching spots and ball park living expenses in that area.

Ex: Location: Madrid Teacher/Instruction (Madrid): Juan Doe Living Xpns: $500/studio, $30/1 hr lesson, discount on >3 week, etc..

Any help in this format/direction would really be appreciated. Comments, feedback also appreciated.

Do a search through the forum, Madrid, Sevilla, Granada, Jerez. You will find posts asking the same questions or from people who have gone to study in these places.

My advice is always try and see all these cities and find out for yourself.

You may want to look at posts on the forum about the Gerardo Nuñez course which is a favourite here among the foro members. I think it is in July in Sanlucar. Again look for posts on the forum.

I live in Granada, and there is a good scene here, lots of private teachers as well as Carmen Las Cuevas which also does language classes.

Has anyone taken the courses in Carmen Las Cuevas? Is it only 5 weeks long as they write on their site ?

It's as long as you want it to be but every week is basically a "reset" i.e. a different palo/piece and possibly a new teacher.

Hi Guys. Great feedback. It seems like Jerez is the place that most embodies where I'd like to study.

Anyone have an "in" to a great studio/1 bedroom apartment? Additionally, any good teachers who also "skype"?

Lastly, Escribano - any option to iTunes your movie? I'd like to purchase it via download.

You might try my old teacher Julio Vallejo in Madrid. He was a student of Paco’s {!} and was one of the guitarists on Paco’s pivotal “Entre Dos Aguas” album. I took classes from him when he was 14…he had always been a virtuoso.
Here he is recording his Rondeña for his son in law and, according to him, was not expecting him to post it on YouTube so he was not really concentrating that much. Let me tell you that when he does concentrate, it’s Paco technique all the way.

Julio has had a lot of guitar students through the years and I think {not sure} that Roberto Hernandez is one of them here playing the same Rondeña by Julio.

Let me know by private email if you want to contact him. Oh, yes, he speaks English very well {and did when he was 14!}.

No downloads available, I am afraid. The publishers either want too much money or it has to have been a cinema/theatre release.
