Alegrías chord
In this Camarón alegrías what's the chord Tomatito is playing after the C (ignoring capo) in the last letra? Around 5:12 or 5:13, right after C and before F. The closest I've got is an A7 but it doesn't sound *quite* right...
Got it, it's 312311 which is... harmonically kind of like a C, right? (again ignoring capo)
It's a common chord in accompaniment so if someone wants to enlighten us on what it's used for I'd definitely appreciate it, others here probably would too.
it's a C dominant 7th, which is used to pull to F.
You can use that shape chord to build tension to pull to any F shaped chord in the same position.
But in general, any dominant 7th chord will lead you a fifth down (or a fourth up, however you think of it.)
So in Alegrias, think of E7 to A, C#7 (same chord shape we're talking about) to Fm7. In Bulerias, A7 to Dm, G7 to C, C7 to F. Solea, E7 to Am, D7 to G, G7 to C. etc.
It doesn't matter what chord shape you use, it'll have the same effect.
Sorry for rambling. This was a good excuse to try to remember stuff I learned in music theory class. Stuff that I, hopefully, learned correctly.
The F note under the barre is the 4th or 11th of the C scale, so technically you can call this chord C11 or C7(11) since the 9th is omitted. As described a common flamenco "grip" to call in the V-I move, F will almost always be next with this voicing.
Another similar V-I move is common in flamenco that uses barre in 3rd fret is: 3 6 5 3 3 5
resolve:
3 3 3 3 5 4
So F7-Bb7....typically next chord will be A por medio.
