Bulerias phrase ending on 3

Hi,

I've been getting more serious lately (after meeting some serious people who is enthusiastic about getting something going :D), and something confuses me.

I've noticed that at times, the phrase ends at 3 and starts at 12 right after that during 2 moments that I can catch:

During ending of the intro falseta
During the ending of a long "dragged" cante phrase.

I couldn't come across any thread about this and I've been cracking my head long enough, thinking for a long time that my counting sucks.

So I'd like to know what does this mean? Is it like a llamada? When is it done?

Thank you.

Probably you mean phrases end on 4 and the new 12 cycle begins on 6. That is a half compas or medio compas. In bulerias there is no rule to it it can happen anytime. Other forms that you will also find this are tangos tientos and taranto (versions with compas verses libre) and rumba, fandango and rarely in solea or bulerias por solea and Alegrias. more often with Falsetas then cante accompaniment. Regarding cante it most often occurs in bulerias or rumba.

i find that (in my limited listening experience) that the singers usually control the addition of these half compases.

do solo guitarists ever add these in whenever they feel like it?

Baile Flamenco bulerias intro

Or am I listening wrongly?

(don't know how to attatch audio files..)

Majority of bulerias performances have a half compas hiding somewhere.

Ricardo, I felt most of that video in sixes anyway. When you say there's a half compás there do you really just mean "count up all the groups of six and you'll find there's an odd number of them"?
