Starting over again with my site (i....

Ok, after many hours wasted in frustration trying to speed up WordPress, I have scrapped my site and will start rebuilding it today.

Sorry to hear about your frustrations. I think your site is
very helpful and will look forward to the new one.
FYI-I posted a silencio by Ramon Amador on the tabs thread. You are welcome to use it on the site if you like it. I also posted a vid on the falseta swap thread.

Thanks for the kind words Dennis. Yes it's very frustrating indeed, but at least I have the site backed up, and the videos already on YouTube.

I'll let everyone know when the site's back in shape!

Yes, I've been reading very bad things about WordPress through GoDaddy hosting. My hosting provider is GVO and the other sites I have in my hosting account are working nice and fast, but they're not WordPress sites... so I'm going back to basic HTML which I'm pretty proficient with anyway.

Sorry to hear that as well. I really liked your site and thanks for the generous amount of material. I was working on a Siguiryias falseta that you had posted. I am amazed at how much good material I have learned from some of the members here at Foro. For instance I have purchased some lessons from Ricardo over at Flamenco-teacher.com for what I consider a bargain. The flamenco community is truly a great and helpful resource and is greatly appreciated!

Ok, I have rebuilt the Seguiriya page. Working on the Soleá page now. I'll just keep plugging away at it.

The nice part is, the site has zero delays now!

It's very good news, I'm happy that I figured out that WordPress was the problem. Or perhaps some combination of WordPress and the host not cooperating with each other. I'm glad you like the new look too.

The only other thing I'd like to figure out is how to have comments or a guestbook -- or perhaps a contact form where I can build an email list. I'm also considering a "donation to PayPal" or some such link, based on what users think how helpful the material is...

Sad to hear that WP was not working out for you. I'm a bit of a fanboy for it myself. There are other CMS systems like it but WP is accepted as being very good.
Your webserver is not running Zeus as opposed to Apache is it?(if so I may have a suggestion) I have had troubles getting WP higher than v3(?) to work with that webserver. That's when we moved to Godaddy. I'm only partially satisfied with them.
Was your theme interferring or perhaps a javascript you were running?
Disabled and or reinstalled all plugins?

Hi jagged, it's too late to check all that. After trying for a few hours to make suggested fixes, I'm doing DIY with HTML and CSS.

It might be an issue with WP and my service provider, GVO. I had only 2 plugins installed, just Akismet and an audio player. I had tried a caching plugin, editing .htaccess with a suggested 'optimization' code, and a few other tricks, but it made no diff at all.

I am generally a fan of WP too... but I'm satisfied with what I'm achieving with the site now. And: NO LAG.

I took a look at your old site using the way back machine :) and found your YT channel. Looks like some clean, clear demonstrations of flamenco technique there!
I look forward to seeing the bigger & better version of your site in the coming months!

I've begun rebuilding the Soleá page, but it's going to be a busy day teaching and performing - I have a solo gig for a university convention this evening, then I have to rehearse with Compañía Azul right after the gig, because we have a show on Saturday...

Don't want to sound like I'm runnin a sales pitch here, just want to help out, but I do own a hosting company. The server is located in Texas, and it runs CMS's very fast - including wordpress.

The difference between me and godaddy or other crowded servers is that we don't overload our servers with thousands of clients. And the database (mysql) is also located on the same box. So Wordpress runs very smoothly.

If you'd like to save time from building your flamenco site from scratch, I'll give you a month free of hosting. After that we charge $5/month through paypal.

I'll even transfer everything over for you if you allow me to : )

Hello vigrond, thanks for the message. I have a reseller hosting account. Do you offer unlimited sites and bandwidth? I pay $45/month for my account through GVO, which is a bit expensive since I'm not taking advantage of their marketing scheme. I am however providing hosting for a few friends/colleagues so I'm making a little extra on the side.

Ok, I've rebuilt the Soleá page, and added a short bio about myself on the "About" page. Next rebuild will be the Taranto page.

In my About page, there are links to 2 other websites, Compañía Azul and Los Flamencos. They are 2 projects I'm currently involved in.

Ok, I have finished rebuilding to where I left off with the old site.

I have also added a bio in the About page, and put a guestbook page as well, to replace the comments feature on the old WordPress site.

I will continue adding more material when I get the chance!
