RE: entre dos aguas - what u think? ... (in reply to guido)
OK, Reuben deserves his criticisms, and speeding up the video is phony baloney, he should have left it as is. Funny I saw this video a while ago but didn't stick around to see the sped-up part LOL
On the plus side, he featured his presumed students and one of them had a solo in it which he supported. So it was not all about him from what I can see. I have seen at least one bigger egomaniac - on a classical guitar instruction video.
I think he can offer a lot to his students, even if it comes with a phony scholarship.
It is too bad Reuben can't defend himself here. Would be interesting and probably incendiary to get his response.

Well, he can't anymore...and if he did he would probably dig his hole even deeper. Too bad to see such a relatively talented player suffering from megalomania and other assorted mental deficiencies. Though I haven't been able to discern whether it's that, or Ruben is just a flawed conman.
RE: entre dos aguas - what u think? ... (in reply to Munin)
It's not fair to attack him with claim about mental deficiencies. IMO he's well aware of what is doing, its just a marketing strategy. All his moves are business oriented. There's nothing free about his thousands vids. There's a message (not clearly express) under every single thoughts he shares with the world.
Personnaly, I don't see nothing wrong with that. If people trust him and do business with him, so what? It's up to them to inform themself about the service or the product they want to buy. It's not like if the guy has no reputation. If you made a basic search before you'll find out what kind of SCAM you'll get...
Now, I wouldn't buy him even a single set of strings. I don't trust him at all. But its funny to see him coming with his heavy wooden shoes...jajaja that's too much sometimes ... but the bigger is, the more it goes!
What make me think is that he uses Paco's name and material for his own profit. Paco is aware of this, so if the maestro was upset by the doc, he'd prohibit such activity. I mean Paco (or his staff) could denounced all the YT vids coz of the copyrights. The whole channels will be shutted down and quasi all the vids he uploaded will be deleted.

There's a lot of penis envy here it seems, especially from Ricardo.
You gotta be joking Yojimbo! Why would Ricardo envy him? Envy for what? Technical ability, musicianship, Fame(?), Success(?)
That's just stupid.
cheers,
Ron
I'm not joking - he sure seems to have a hard on for him if you ask me. I mean, just look at his posts about the guy.
And some of the other things being posted here are just shameful. Mental deficiencies?
Unlike everyone else here, I've actually met Ruben. This whole thread is a pile of horse **** and should be shut down. It makes this forum look like it's populated by a bunch of crazed teenage girls.

Go on then, tell us how Ruben actually and unexpectedly redeems himself in person? Both you and kudo saying the same things but refuse to go into any details. How convenient.
The rest of us haven't met him in person, but we sure have witnessed his short stay in the forum here. And we are basing our opinions on that (and in Ricardo's case maybe more, not sure). Were you around to see that?
I once messaged him on YT about the use of a technique in one of his videos. He proceeded to blast me with 1-2 messages a day for a whole week or so (despite me never replying back) in which he went on his usual endless rants and tangents of being the only true teacher of PdL technique, pushing me into signing up for his lessons or buying his guitars, etc. All that for simply asking 1 simple and unrelated question.

Ahahah Munin, me too. Once I just wrote him a banal message style "thks for this tips" and he replied me with a marketing advertisement about the lessons, dozen of links...I just laugh...jejeje!
I wonder how many skype students he drives?

hey I never said I met him in person. although at one point, I could have met him as he was only down the street of where I was but I did not want to meet him because of the same reasons why you would not want to meet him.
now, I am neutral towards him, I am not for and I am not against Ruben. I would never want to have his guitars and I would never take a lesson from him. I agree with you guys, his way of doing things, marketing and doing business is just wrong! although he is a good player. I also hate that jazzy flamenco fusion non-sense **** that he does. and yes, his videos can be annoying and full of non-sense. however, one has to mention that sometimes he does share some good falsetas.
as you can see, he is trying to make a living, but he is using the wrong methods which are doing the opposite for him! I think that had he been honest from the first place, things would be totally different for him. dont you agree?
I found out that 4 of my friends have met him in person, 3 of which are very good friends of mine, and have no idea of what Ruben does online. they told me about him in person, and its very different from what you see him doing online. one of them knows his family in Spain really well, so I know about his family and his life. according to all 4 of them: he is not a bad person in person. however, the 4th friend (being the only ex-student of his whom I know) told me that he is a bit sketchy due to his marketing strategy.
when I talked to him through messages, he is actually not a bad person, and (for some reason) he did not try to pull me in to his marketing stuff, he did not do any of that stuff to me. I dont know why.

I agree 100%
I was not here when Ruben was doing things here on the foro, but I can understand where you guys are coming from.
I also think that it is not a good idea to keep on attacking Ruben here on there foro. whenever his name is mentioned here, its like mentioning the devils name Arash- ROFL!!

man of course he is friendly offline, because he wants to sell his crap firewood guitars and his lessons. he is also friendly in his youtube videos, wanting to sell his lessons.7
so what? what does "fiendly" and "not a bad person" mean? do you want to get ripped off by a very "friendly and not a bad" person?
I prefer an a$$hole and unfriendly guy, selling me a top product and been honest

A little off topic from the 'Prof' -- I'd like to say that I have dropped by your site and enjoyed your playing immensely! It really is great to have you here on the foro!
Would you be so kind as to volunteer to be one of the judges in our upcoming falseta challenge? I'm sure everyone who enters will benefit from your thoughts.

Thanks Chester! Umm, what's this falseta challenge all about?? Sounds like it'd be fun to judge.
