I think this is a cheap student guitar or something like that.
Definately not a A Model (the headstock is also not half moon)
I would compare this model to the current cheaper EF4 or EF5 Models.
I would not pay more than 1500 (without seeing and playing it)
However if you have the chance to play it, could turn out a real good guitar. Then could pay 2000 or a little more

I used to have one of these that was pretty good sounding. It was not a media luna. A 40 year old guitar in good shape that sounds potent is still worth something even if it's not a collectable label. I would say these can go for up to 3500.00 and still be a value.

Where else are you going to be able to afford an old guitar? This one is fifty years old. Some of the non media headstocks were still fine guitars. One thing they have going for them is that fifty years ago spruce was still fairly cheap in Europe. These guitars had a very good chance of getting a nice top of quarter sawn wood with little runout put in them. I would not be so fast to down play these guitars when you think about the grades of spruce available for second tier instruments fifty years ago. The bargain student instrument spruce then was probably better than some of the AA or AAA grade spruce we get now. I've looked at lots of 50-60 year old Spanish clunkers and wished I had that Spruce in the tops.

Even mismatched tops can be great, it's a all about the tonal quality of the wood not its cosmetic value. I've been wnating to make myself an "ugly" mismatched top guitar to show how good it can sound and also so it won't sell, then I'll be able to keep one of my own creations.

If you think about the materials quality and the age there is value in these older student and second tier models.

I agree, If it sounds great and plays well i would even go higher. Old guitars certainly have a special tonal quality. Trouble is when the price gets up, the choice of guitars becomes much greater, so it has to be really good and the guitar you really want. Better than anything else available for the same price. It's good if you manage to get a good deal privately with one of these. But from a dealer, You can guarantee you will pay top dollar.

Thanks everyone for the input..
guess i just needed a few opinions here...so grateful it came from people who know..
i spoke to Rick
Kris it isn't Manolo's guitar
it was in a cupboard for 20 years
it is part of an estate
it has been recently set up by luthier by the name of Moyse [missed the first name]
Rick mentioned it is hand made and not from a mould
it plays well and sounds good...
I trust ricks words...

so he is happy to send it down with a 10 day cooling off period...$20 shipping each way
so a good deal

my dilemma is this
i work as guitar teacher so receive two large sums of money each year
i figured this would make an reasonable 2nd guitar to my Ramirez sp/cy.[ concert guitar]..as i always like/need a spare guitar...[ street/cafe performance etc..]
i paid too much for my ramirez [long story] and have had it listed for a while...i really like this guitar but am open to an upgrade...something like Nigels Glenn canin also listed...
as far as a 2nd guitar goes i could pay less and get a Navarro or something similiar and put funds towards an upgrade...but means finding a buyer for the Ram...which isnt really a happening thing unless i lose up to 3K
Any one got any ideas??

That's great man! I hope it turns out to be a real cracker. If it is? do what you have to do to get it. It may turn out to be your top guitar I find those old condes always make me want to play old Cepero falsetas. They only ever sound right on those old guitars

As for your delema, I say keep the Ramirez, buy the Conde and get the Canin as well! But hide from the wife

Al,
the setup on the Conde would of been done by Robin Moyes..... he does great work. I owned a 1960's conde which i also bought from Rick back in 1996, i paid $3500 back then and from memory sold it for $3,000. Wasn't anything special in terms of sound.

Might be worth checking this one out though....then of course there is the Glenn Canin :)

I played an old green label conde from the 60's...it was really fantastic actually. I was surprised it compared so well with the signed label models from this same period.

I though ALL old condes till about the 70s, students or signed were hand made? what does he mean by from a mould? like a factory guitar as per the current student condes?

cheers

you are most likely right Skye...just going by what Rick told me and repeating here...
i know nothing of these instruments or Conde's in general, in fact when i bought the Ramirez i was very confused by the whole Conde thing...but nearly ended up with a Media Luna but choose the 1A as it seemed a better sounding guitar.....

Looking good,,,still no bids...if it expires i know where it lives .....
hope its still there on pay day....
got an inquiry for the Ramirez today so maybe some wheeling and dealing....
Either way i will still have two guitars....
odd though i'm very attached to that guitar...mmmmmmm
