Rosewood Negra w/Pegs DELIRIO #2

Hola Señores! I just finished and delivered this RW Negra a couple weeks ago. A great way to finish 2011 and start a new year with confidence and devote myself entirely to professional guitar building. I will miss teaching swimming, but it is a step towards to following a dream as a guitar builder and musician. At the moment, I am building at home in Mexico City, but "cross my fingers" soon, if work allows for it, will move closer to Paracho, in the Patzcuaro Lake area. Beautiful sites and hopefully have a better chance to be closer to materials and a more direct contact with my good friend and maestro, luthier Carlos Hernandez. I miss that guy a bunch, and the feedback and conversations are something I look forward to. The Int'l Guitar Builder annual Contest is also something I have my eyes set on for the 1st week of august. So it seems that, thankfully, there's a lot of work for me to do. Currently I am working on a couple more, A Purple Heart/Sitka and a Palo Escrito w/Pegs. It feels great to get back to building!!!

Arash! Thank you for commenting! hahaha. Did you read the "description" on the headstock picture? You know it is very funny, a couple of years ago I was walking out of a rehearsal in Mexico City, Centro de Tlalpan, a very colonial, very beautiful small little town right in the middle of the City full of bars and coffee shops. As I was walking through the plaza, I saw a guy with a flamenco guitar with a very similar headstock shape as I had just done when finishing my very first Handmade Guitar. That instantly drew me to check that guitar out! I talked to the guy (flamenco teacher), and arranged to take lessons from him. After a few days, while discussing youtube lessons, he told me he had taken lessons from Professor R. Diaz during his trip to Spain and he had sold him that guitar for 5000 euros. I could not believe it, since I had just returned to the city after spending time in Paracho, Michoacan, where I did my apprenticeship with a truly fine fine luthier - Carlos Hernandez. I wasn't long before we decided to put an end to the lessons and I soon learned through ForoFlamenco about Andalusian guitars. It is very unfortunate that those things happen in business, any. Ethics!!! And as for the design, I left my prototype headstock shaping for the very end, and is what I thought would resemble the landscapes of the desert and the "sirocco" winds. Aesthetics!!!? I showed my guitar to my client, and he liked it so much because he thought it was simple, yet different,(my same thoughts back then) that he requested that design. As I wrote above on the description, I would not like to be limited to ONE headstock design, and since have developed a couple more to be chosen by guitarists upon ordering. Arash, I promise that I will not use that particular design when you order a Custom Made Flamenca from me!! (unless you tell me so! ) And I promise it will only be 860 euros / 1100 USD with Rubner, Schaller or Gotoh Tuners, Including Custom Handmade Hardshell case, if you order your guitar now as a Special Intro Price. really!!

quote: "Andalusian Guitars" from the Professor Actually I thought of that too... but it looks really nice and for some reason like it will have very good bass. Not a fan of Fret position dots as they put me off when the capo is on and I happen to look down .......you didn't fancy going for french polish? and now we need a sound clip ....... _____________________________ Riiiiiiiikko, Amaaaazing playing sir!! You have in me one more fan!! I have been listening to your youtube videos... All of them!! hahaha . The first I heard was your "Bulerias Ideas" and from around second 00:40 when you start with the falsetas, I was so hooked!! It has been MOST INSPIRING to listen to you play!! You had me jamming under your guitar for quite a while!! I Have learnt a lot, thank you so much!! All those different Palos where so beautiful. I like how you tune down a half step, great feel, right!? I will start using new Headstock designs, put aside the Fretdots (use only if requested, as this was a custom order), and start French Polishing. I hope that will serve to improve the guitars' overall appeal. You are spot on about the guitar looking like having very good basses!!! The woods combination, Santos bracing/bridge patch. the Pegs and even the NitroLaquer finish was a very very pleasant discovery to me. I felt exactly what you are saying about the bass qualities. I asked the owner if he could record a little bit for us to show and share it with the "Foro". Speaking of capos, I will deliver one for his guitar and perhaps I can find a proper microphone and record for this weekend. 2 more guitars on cue. Sitka Spruce tops with different stiffness, experiencing with it as to how can it be made to sound!! Percussive, sweet, dry, punchy, singing, etc.?. My #1 was Maple B&S, and Sitka Top. Very nice blanca, but as I learn more and get a better grasp on working all the different aspects of building/playing, I feel there's a whole range of options that will yield great guitars. Thanks for the input and most importantly, the Flamenco lesson!!

Very nice work Rodrigo. The shape of the body is very refined and the workmanship appears to be excellent. How in the world to you sell it for that price? _____________________________ John Shelton - www.shelton-farretta.org Mr. Shelton, Sir, you have made my day!! Thank you so much for your words of kindness and encouragement!! As for the selling price, well, I am just starting to build on my own, and pricing them has been my biggest challenge. One more lesson I have to learn! I think I should charge less than my teacher Carlos Hernandez and the many Professional Top Luthiers I know of. That seems fair for starters, but knowing how much less is very hard considering the experience you have and the respect and admiration I have for your work. And also as you all probably have thought in the beginning, how to put a price on something you do with so much passion and dedication?! I´m sure experience will show me the right answer... that and the marketplace! I decided to charge 3 times the cost of materials - excluding the case - for my first guitars, to hopefully get a list of orders placed started right now in the very beginning when I need it the most, to get me established (setting up my shop in the Paracho/Patzcuaro area for example). I realize that for brief period of time, it is a limited return/profit under that price, but sooner than later the guitars will prove to be of greater quality, greater value and charge accordingly in the months and years to come, if permitted! I appreciate your advice and encouragement, would love to talk shop with you sir! By the way, you had me looking on-line for a chuck tapered reamer... I found the Herdim System Reamer with Hexagonal shaft, for chuck, hand-drill or wooden handle. That is on the top of my list!!

As for Headstocks , that is the one part of the guitar that can be your trademark and be recognised by it , so make it a good one that you are comfortable with, Rico_Kiko! I truly enjoyed your Playlist, sevillanas, tarantos, bulerias, tangos... Flamenco technic is not so easy, and when you loosen up it feels spot on! It was inspiring to see you play, and that moves me to develope a good study praxis. It is funny how it is better to teach by example! Where are you from sir? I can't wait to use my new design, at the same time, I guess my main focus was working the Top right. The headstock is a trademark, I love German.V. Rubio, Ramirez and Conde, amongst others, and my new design has those influences, but most guitarist choose their instruments based on playability and sound. But I can see how that can be important to make a good first impression overall. I think the guitarist forgets about the aesthetical aspect of the guitar, and focus on feel.
