RE: Best music to play while serenad... (in reply to Ron.M)
I married a woman who speaks spanish like a native-she grew up in latin america, and she has a nice singing voice. I tried to interest her in learning cante and she said "I'm way too happy to sing that stuff-you could do it but not me"

I think chicks dig it when you're happy. We only THINK they are moved by our depth of emotion....our jjjjjondo....or our little inner emo whiny ass.
I think you're right.
All this Tarantas and deep soulful stuff turns 'em off in my experience.
Worse still is a fumbling "technical" Bulerias where they can't even clap along.
They seem to dig (old style) Alegrias as the phrasing makes sense to them and they can clap along in a 1/1 format. LOL!
But as Ricardo says, Gypsy Kings is the stuff to get 'em.
Everybody loves that stuff.
It's a wonder we don't drop Flamenco puro and just play that if we are interested in money, love and success.
But maybe we're not somehow...and that's what makes the diff?

the secret is not serenading with instrumental music, but rather SINGING that is the key. Do y'all agree?
It depends on the chick. Some girls go nuts for just guitar, and especially more virtuoso stuff, but still Rumba works. Others singing is the only way to go. And I have also met some (usually flamenco dancers-watch out for them by the way, make sure thats what you really are after first LOL) that hate gypsy kings or romantic guitar, only some sophisticated complex stuff will do it for em. Everyone is different. More generally yes, singing romantic GK stuff will do it.

In my experience It's all about the vibe between the two of you. If the vibe is cool then you can play anything. Unfortunately it's hard to manipulate the vibe.
A fun happy vibe mixed with a bit of a naughty vibe is always good. Im not sure which flamenco tune fits that
You may be better to leave the guitar at home and turn up armed with a few jokes, some alcohol and some reflective listening skills

Going by todays facebook newsfeed and the first 20 women to post music clips i would say the general mood for today is... minor key verses and major in the chorus... ambient...lots of reverb on the snare drum...[if you were going to bring one with you].. power/soul ballad...with a small amount of grunge and rhumba... piano...but just a few notes here and there...... light comic relief in some lyric like...' you burn me up i'm a cigarette'.... most seem to contain the phrase...'i love you;...or 'our love is bigger, deeper..'you dont know what love is...' etc etc...
Not much in the solo guitar department except for Galina Vale's 'Malaguenas'...No Offence Adam but somehow wish she was a foro member and posted the Topic She would be a great person to ask....
Nothing remotely flamenco...
Prince appeared twice...so maybe wear a rhinestone velvet jacket...and beat your chest every 20 seconds women are complex
why not send her a link to your myspace or soundcloud and let her choose?...with the link attach one of those emoticons...a rose...a heart etc...
I Guess this is of no help....

Almost every girl I tell that I play guitar asks me if I sing also, and once I say that I don't I can see a brief glimpse of disappointment in their eyes. Seriously I think most are bored by "instrumental" stuff unless they are musicians themselves. They want some Jack Johnson type to sing them a sweet ballad, and don't give a **** about a heartbreaking solea tremolo. Sadly, that's how it is.

AIVal, is that picture with the girl such a " look 10 min at it and you will finally recognize a guitar"-picture??? xD Did you take that? Great one! Who is that girl?
RE: Best music to play while serenad... (in reply to Mark2)
this is not just a girl playing classical guitar. there is marketing behind it. c'mon man! it's like she is masturbating when she does tremolos... tsss all the music industries are the same...

Wow, now im confused. The pictures above do not match her playing skills at all (assuming its really she playing?!). And of course she gets 1000 bonus points for covering Bach por buleria which is always a great idea.

ok ... my last bit of research on this topic... the vibe from Galina is [via my girlfriend] ... 'it does'nt matter what the piece is as long the heart and emotion is there' so guess that is one woman's perspective...
Play What You Love To Play...

have to say she does it all herself...her sister does the costumes and photo's the rest is the Artist putting herself out there, no marketing team as such..her vision.. i'm a great fan of Galina's...offers an eccentric and theatrical performance in a fairly conservative world of concert guitar... we have been trying to get the guitar forces that be in Australia to bring her here...[we do have an international guitar festival]..but they seem reluctant...shame really as she would boost flagging ticket sales and offer a different way of presenting the guitar...

she recently was given a Rameriz 1A Blanca 1960...cant seem to find any footage of it however....
