El Cigala with Diego Morao

Saw the L.A. concert last night, his first US tour. There were a few sound problems, balance and e.q. (way too trebly, with an occasional foray into feedback-land.) This, and a slightly rushed nervous energy that sometimes kept the groove from solidly establishing itself, marred what could have been a solid show. Regardless, the audience went crazy and gave him 2 standing ovations.

The repertoire was mostly his recorded hits and new album, so it was more about Cuban son and Argentine tango than Flamenco. Still and all, lovely music beautifully interpreted.
Diego Morao did a superb solo bulerias, and the two of them alone on stage did a great Solea, and closed with a second encore of Cigala-style extended bulerias.

I was there last night and agree with your review. It would have been nice to have a few more flamenco pieces. I don't think it went unnoticed that the crowd was eager for that as well. The buleria at the end was a perfect end to the set, and it was good to hear Diego play some of his Dad's falsetas as a tribute to him. That was a particularly touching aspect of the performance last night for me. Also it was a pleasant surprise to hear what a competent jazz guitarist Diego is in the live setting. The solea was also superb. From my perspective I think the concert would have been even better if it was just the trio of Cigala, Diego, and Sabu. The son and tango were impeccable (and what a monster Jaime is!) but the real magic arose during the moments that were more purely flamenco.

Sounds like you guys would have enjoyed last nights show in San Francisco: Diego del Morao's show, of which most of the first set was duo with Diego and Sabu.

Then he was joined by various participants, including at one time piano, upright bass, violin and singers.
They ended with a very loose fiesta type bulerias with a little dancing that was a lot of fun.
Cigala sat in for 1 (bulerias?..can't remember), and sang a bit at the end.
I'll be checking out Cigala's show in Berkley tonight. I also attended 1 of Diego del Morao's guitar workshops..and am leaving in 15 min to attend another! Life is good in SF!!!
