i love the good professor's use of hollywood technique to get the camera to zoom in (6:55).

he spent a lot of time with the angle of the neck and the ability to shove his card underneath the strings. was his argument legit about the strings touching and sound and tension?

Diaz is an idiot.
The strings touching the wood of the head will have no bearing on the sound, at least not one that human ears are capable of hearing, especially as one plays up the neck. A long, loose string end can conceivably vibrate against the head and create an annoying buzz but beyond that....
That "negra" needs a good setup or has other problems.

The angle of the head in relation to the neck shaft is not the "neck angle". Neck angle is the relationship of the plane of the neck shaft to the body of the guitar.

whoah.. talking crap about Luis Feu de Mesquita's guitars I designed that headstock for the Reyes copy he built me in 2009. I'm glad Luis is using it on his new guitars.

http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=101305&appid=&p=&mpage=1&key=mesquita&tmode=&smode=&s=#109075

I don't see any relation to the strings touching the headstock issue being a problem.. I've owned a few very good Spanish guitars as well as a DeVoe blanca that had this going on. One thing is for sure Ruben is a very convincing salesman

He was banned from Paco's forum also and tried to disguise himself with the name 'Armando Guerra' ('waging war'). The guys on the forum easily recognized who he was by his rantings and by his Latin American idiosyncractic language.

Im getting sick of looking around the net for flamenco stuff and allways find his links...Also he just keeps using famous names to market himself, and I think that is disrespecting both the luthiers and Paco de Lucia, neither him or his guitars have a level even close to that in my ears.

Hey Anders, When I come around Ill bring a card!

He was colourful for sure, try watching this with the sound off while keeping a straight face, it can't be done.

Ok apart from the Ruben bashing can someone (luthier) address the whole strings touching the headstock?
I try and wind my strings in such a way that there is always clearance, so is it ok to have string touching the headstock or not? And why?

RE: How to choos a good flamenco guitar (in reply to duende

Everything he says is garbage from a guitar maker standpoint. He does not know his ass from his elbow. He can't hear either, he can't distinguish much because he does not compare good guitars to one another.

Help much?

It does not matter that much if the strings graze the string ramp. Ideally you would not want that to happen, but it's not a problem as long at it's a lower than the nut slot. He makes an issue out of something that is a non issue. If he could actually hear he would tell you the best way to pick a flamenco guitar is by listening and feeling lots of guitars before you choose. Or have some one help you pick one who is not trying to sell you the guitar.

exactly, if someone needs that many theories to sell a guitar, something is wrong.

I was really digging the cool, Sam Rami, Evil Dead style camera work, then I realized the camera wasn't moving.

This could easily be turned into a public health message for dietary fiber.
