Hi. Im about to have my first preformance with "my" bailora" and because we´re very short of time she wants to dance a sevillana to fill out the time. Any suggestions? I know the "toques flamencos" sevillanas and some of the juan martin video. Are thoes good choises to work with?? Any ideas are welcome. It´s just a short apperance, so we´re gona do soléa/sevillanas and im going to do one or two solos. solea por bulerias and barrios la viña.

Hey Henrik, You could do that cool Sevillanas of Manolo Sanlucar's on the Saura "Sevillanas" video.
Actually I like the "corny" upbeat, non-cool, jolly traditional Sevillanas myself! Really! Like the Sevillanas that Grant uploaded a while back, or Paco Peña's, or Pepe Martinez
There's enough "heavy" stuff in Flamenco so it's nice to have a change every now and then.

As you know there are four Sevillanas to a group. Play any four that you know. Or if I misunderstood, if you only have time to play one of the traditional four, then play the one you know best.
When I played accompaniment for Jose Galvan and his family, we discussed Sevillanas. Jose told me (and this is his preference), “Play only one Sevillanas and repeat it four times if that is all that you know. What is important is the feeling!” Others may not agree with that statement but I think I can believe what Jose said!

i sure i´ll please her. I do 4 sevillanas. 1 E major 2 A minor 3 E phrygian and 4 D major. im trying to find one i like in A major or C major since E phrygina mod and A minor are´t that far appart.

I found the above Sevillanas on the internet by Paquito Simon. Interestingly the first Sevillanas that I learnt (which I think is a Paco Pena or Juan Martin piece) has a melody in the Am section which is [a bit faster] but almost EXACTLY the same notes as "El Condor Pasa" of course by another [quite famous] P. Simon.

Henrik, I find the hardest thing about playing sevillanas alone for a dancer is playing it loud enough to be heard. You'll have to compete with the castanets and footwork. It's so much easier with 2 guitars or with a cantaor, but you have no choice in this one.
Here's what my usually play: !st one in A major, 2nd one in A minor, 3rd one in C major, and 4th one in A phrygian.
If you prefer a modern sounding one, listen to Moraito's sevillanas from his 'Morao y Oro CD.
