What to do in Sevilla

I'll be in Sevilla on Friday and Saturday night and it'll be my first time exploring there. Anyone have recommendations for where to find flamenco while I'm there? And of course if anyone here is going to be in town at the same time let me know!

Hola ramparts!

I'm currently there and have been for the past 7 weeks... where will you be staying? Depending on the location you can find some flamenco or not at all. Some penas might be open on Friday, but Saturday is usually not a flamenco night.
The best place to hear flamenco is around La Alameda de Hercules, on a street called Calle Castellar. The place is called Corallon de Castellar (near the Calle Castellar & San Luis intersection)... entrance is free and the show starts at midnight on Friday (which means around 1 in reality). The cool thing about Corallon is that it goes on until the early hours of the morning... depending on the night you can just sit around, have a drink and listen to people sing until dawn.

Ottherwise you can find some flamenco in Triana (mostly around Calle Betis), but it's a washed down touristy flamenco as Calle Betis is the entertainment district of Sevilla.

I would also suggest that you avoid places like La Carboneria... way too many overly loud tourists who quite simply ruin the show!

Avi - I haven't booked a hostel yet, I'm waiting to see where the best locations are. Any recommendations for hostels or areas? And if you want to meet up Friday night at La Alameda de Hercules I'm down!

It's not easy finding flamenco in sevilla, you really have to know people who can take you there. Apart from that the city is more or less dead in July-August because of the summer, everybody who can leaves the city.

I remember when I was living in Sevilla there was a bar near the Alameda de Hercules which I frequented quite often and which had a lot of really good flamenco (I saw Caracafe and el Vareta playing there one night). I liked the fact that at the beginning of the show the owner would say "no palmas de mallorca" if there were any tourists present lol. The bar was called "Flamenco" and was in one of the side streets, but I don't know if it's still there, but it's worth a look.

Another good place is the Peña Torres Macarena, but I don't know wether they've got anything going over the summer.

Pablo is right!

Sevilla has been emptying itself in the past couple of weeks... the pena Torres Macarena is a really good place, great flamenco, but they have closed for the summer last week. So have pena Pies de Plomo and pena Nino de la Alfalfa... the 2 other good penas in Sevilla.

There's always the odd little bar.... or Corallon.

I've been here in Sevilla for the last week and a half - have been having an awesome time, taking classes with Cano and playing for Pastora Galvin's dance classes. I agree Corallon has been great, very flamenco atmosphere, we'll propably go Thursday, Friday night we'll be heading to Sala Raya Real (c/ Salado 2, Triana), which apparently has pretty good flamenco shows on Fridays with local unknown artists, I haven't been there yet myself. Los Gallos is always a good option if you want to see lots of dance and don't mind paying 30 euros - especially now that Rafael Campallo is there most nights. Saturday we're heading to Sanlucar.

If anyone wants to drop in for a jam Friday let me know - we're renting a piso on c/- Sans Luis.

Aloysius, have you been to Corallon de Castellar? I like everything Avi said about it (midnight, free, and jam until early morning

) and it's near my hostel so I think I'll go there Friday night, as long as it's open. I'm arriving Friday night around 9 but if you're around Saturday before you go to Sanlúcar I should be free.

I'm heading to Sanlúcar on Sunday, Aloysius, so if I don't catch you in Sevilla I'll see you there!

Hi, as Seville ... It's a shame that because of Sevilla City Hall permits no more flamenco.

It is true that in July / August is very empty all, lots of heat too, but let's be positive.

What's in Sevilla worth? ... Sevillano recommend as "Los Gallos" in "Plaza de Santa Cruz", "El Arenal" after the bullring, or "El Patio Sevillano" next to the bullring also ... These are shows of 2 hours.

Triana is also in the famous bar "La Anselma" where the same sing flamenco Seville there depends on the day ...

In the Street Betis (Triana), the only thing you see is Sevillanas in their bars, and some street asking guitarist coins.

The Carboneria has a fixed schedule of 22h to 24h, because the neighbors complain and call the police ... Light is a more flamenco, with beginners, but is always busy ... always, many students and youth especially.

Another issue is to find flamenco by chance because the goblin aperece luck on your trip to Sevilla ...
