What is his budget? Pegs or tuners? Blanca or negra?

fair enough...i dont see it that way...used guitar should be more if someone in the same country buys it...or at least the same...cause whomever got it spent extra money on transport, tax, wood treatment, but most importantly played it and opened the wood up..

so the guitar will sound and feel better then when it was brand new

but maybe its just me...i am curious to see how others see it..always thought the value of a guitar goes up with time not down

I guess it depends how good the guitar sounds, looks and plays.

Flo - I don't disagree with your logic, but in many years of buying and selling I've not found this to be the case.

BTW the 05 Anders negra that was at Trilogy appears to be sold.

It seems as if commonly used guitars are being sold for much less than retail / workshop price. ( As it also shows in the foros resale section, where you see guitars, usually retailed new for ~ 8 grands offered at 5 or 6.)
Unless:
# It was about instruments from sought-after luthiers with long waiting lists.
# Rare or vintage / antique specimens.

I personally believe in the merrits of aged wood and the benefits of buying used guitars.
However, what the opening up through playing is concered, it appears somewhat plausible to me that guitars might develop depending on use / player. Should that apply, pre-owners with a strong touch and fretting across the fretboard will have a different influence from eventual pre-owners with flimsy touch and cords merely on the first three frets.

Some even believe that harmonic measure would be mattering too, which - who knows - could possibly have something to it.

Id be reluctant to sell mine for cheaper infact I wouldnt sell my Flamenco guitars at all, I'll just keep adding to the collection. It does seem that prices depreciate and I can see it from both sides seen as Ive bought second hand and new.

I do have a Brazilian steel string which I never play but Im hanging on to it because I do expect that to increase in value over the years considering the situation with b.r.

fair enough...but maybe because you are like me, when i sell something i just wanna get ride of it so i am always prepared to take less ...i am not the best seller..i never stick to my guns

but for some reason its different when it comes to a guitar ( so much effort and waiting involved) perhaps if i had another guitar i would think different and wouldn't mind taking a little loss but i am not prepared to take a loss with this one for some reason...at the very least id want the same price as i got it for...not that i am planning to sell it...i just cant afford anytime without a guitar....if i did have to make that sacrifice the money would have to be enticing

Used DeVoes are going for the price of new DeVoes. I would certainly not sell mine for a loss. From everything that I've seen and heard of Ander's guitars, I am sure it is the same. Quality is going to cost. Have him look for some beat-up, old, used Santos.

RE: Looking for a used Anders Ellias... (in reply to Guitarproject

the issue of used instruments is indeed strange. The thing that bothers me is that try before buy seems to be the golden rule, but how can you try a guitar that has yet to be built? It is a bit of a leap of faith. On the other hand, when purchasing a used instrument at least you know exactly what you are getting. I believe as a result typically people commission instruments from the big luthiers of the world and end up selling the guitars for much less after x amount of time. Flamenco is indeed an expensive pursuit. A top of the line electric guitar would not be much more than three thousand dollars which seems to be the entry level price for a concert quality flamenco guitar.

unless the luthier became in high demands and his new price much higher than your initial purchase , otherwise it will never be a good investment. Just like buying a painting from an unknown artist in the hope to make a fortune when he dies and becomes famous.

a guitar cost $3000 or euro is really underpaid for a luthier and i feel sorry for them. a plumber in australia min. get $50 /hr and some do **** jobs:(

A luthier is an artist of course, and all artists are underpaid. But artists are also purchasing these guitars usually, and so 3000$ is a lot. In any case, I hope that people are not purchasing these guitars as an "investment;" although the price tag seems hefty once you find a guitar you love it is priceless.

we humans beings are pathetic, we only value most famous artists when they were dead.

too true, too true.

However, to get back to the original topic; I have noticed it is very rare to find a used Anders guitar, and that says something I think.
