The Spanish representative to the European parliament during the debate on compensation for losses caused by the false e-coli accusation against Spanish cucumbers.
Just a wonderfully absurd image.

No...this is more absurd. Everyone is jumping on the band wagon to make cucumber jokes. Durex in germany have designed this advert which says “Girls don’t give EHEC any chance”

Imagine the reaction here in Spain if 25 spaniards had died from eating cucumbers and they suspected that the bacteria came from Morocco.....
Also, another thing which is being forgotten in this theme is that Spanish vegetables have been banned from northern european markets many times. Mostly because of to high a level of insecticides etc. So the northern european consumer is already very suspicious when it comes to food from Spain.
In the end it all ends up being something political... I think its horrible that so many people die because they have eaten something that was supposed to be healthy and good for you.

exactly , a joke going round at the moment is that is the first time that you could accuse the Germans of behaving like the Spanish !
Still this time it was not there fault and they have suffered badly from the accusations. I read today they just turned down the compensation offer as they want more. That may be a mistake !

Yes, the accusations were wrong and the Spanish vegetable producers have lost money. But two things: *It was very easy to point on them. Go to Mercadona and look at their red peppers. Sometimes they are completely gray on the top. Thats rests from the pesticides etc. So their crying about how fantastic a quality they produce is hollow.
* Others will loose a lot more. The produccion of Spanish tomatoes, cucumbers etc. Is stopping now. Its end of season. So the Spanish producers will loose just a relatively small part of their yearly income. The producers in Northern Europe are just starting their season and they might loose and enourmous amount of money because of the crisis and will therefor need more compensation.

Gentlemen of Europe,
Martians have landed in Spain and they are going to take our women with these disgusting green Martian penises. I never thought I would say this, but we must ask the Americans for help fighting the Martians.
