All the neighbours gathered yesterday to unveil a plaque outside the house where Enrique Morente was born on Cuesta Gregoria. Also the house where my good friends the musicians Andoni and Arantxa live. It was a lovely gathering as we drank wine and ate jamon and listened to Hierbita playing guitar. El Niño de las Almendras was due to sing but word came that he had not got in till 6 am after last night. Viva El Niño I hope I am still doing that when I am over 80 !!!
That's great Kate! I'm looking forward to checking out the plaque this summer. It's funny seeing Yerbita playing there after having met the guy a couple of times last summer.... like that night at La Gran Taberna when el Niño de las Almendras serenaded our own at_leo_87 and Feda
Thanks for the report and the link, Kate. There was a nice old video of Enrique wandering around the Albaicín and doing a spot of singing, but I can't find it now. While looking for it I chanced upon this one (Can't see you, but I see Borja )
This is not it, but is also from the 70s and has a good view, so will do for now:
I was standing to the right of the camera, under the shade of the tree by the leg of Jamon :)
Borja had an exhibition recently and we bought one of his paintings. Later i found out 3 other pepole had tried to buy the same painting. It has Borja in it, a self portrait with onions
Another friend Paul Roberts has an exhibition of flamenco paintings which I am going to tomorrow. I would love to buy one of these as well but probably cant afford it. The man in the picture is a Habichuela I believe, father of Juan and Pepe maybe. He is holding a guitar unfortunately which you cant see in this link. Will have to ask Paul about it.
