RE: A new headstock design (in reply to Anders Eliasson

anders: headstock design = luthier art work with the operative word being art. what works for me may not be another person's cup of tea. that said, i actually like the headstock design(s) of the two guitars you are holding on your web page (you are sitting outdoors wearing a long tan coat). i am not sure if they are your design or someone else's designs--but i like them. but, back to the original statement-- your new design looks nicer than the older version. just be careful to not knock that headstock against a hard object as the result might look like professor diaz's andalucian guitar.

It's all taste but after looking at your old design, I prefer the old one. But they are both nice.

Anders, I like this one very much. I think it is an improvement, but the others were great as well. I suppose it just looks more complex, but not overdoing it.

I think this design would look even better for a peghead!

Perhaps you can post one and we will see.

Hi Anders
Good one, I like it better than your original. Very unique and that counts for a lot in my book.

Thanks everyone. I like it a lot myself.

So what can we learn from this?
Dont be afraid of banging around your guitars while building them.

It's how the cutaway was invented.

Nice head design Anders.

ok ... a similar thing happened to me few years agò ....(I'm an architect) and I was building a villa with a wall eight feet tall as a fence all around, I had just started to build this wall when a truck backing up completely deistroyed what I had done.
So I decided not to rebuild the wall and make an iron-work fence!
It came out a great job!

so... it is true that when you are building something, things happen even to generate innovation!
Anyway I like very much both headstocks!
ciao

Well there are the deeper psychological factors.

The original design had a sharp central point - just like Jose Ramirez III who always backed his own judgement rather than copying other designs.

But wait - the incised mark seems like a subliminal medi luna. Does this luthier have a secret admiration for Conde guitars?

And now a tiny overt media luna appears in the new design.

We can only speculate as to what will happen next. Perhaps the media luna will grow bigger. Perhaps Anders will declare he is the secret love child of Faustino Conde - quadruple his prices - mysteriously qaudruple his output? Watch this space!

Rob,
Sometimes a head stock is just a head stock......or to put it another way:
A headstock is not a cigar.

I will definately raise my prices and every serious flamenco player and/or builder should have respect and admiration of Faustino Conde.

I need some emotocon punctuation so I can gauge the level of sarcasm in this statement.....

Here's a sneak peek at the new one I'm doing now. In progress, should be on a negra guitar by the end of the week.

You are looking at yourself in the mirror. You are the sarchastic person here. There are no sarcasm, no double meaning etc in my post.

I agree.

To get serious for a moment, I like the original design very much - austere, elegant and refreshingly original.

My respect goes a little deeper to Domingo Esteso.

RE: A new headstock design (in reply to TANúñez

Ok, then lets say:

I will definately raise my prices and every serious flamenco player and/or builder should have respect and admiration of Faustino Conde and Domingo Esteso.

I´m training to become a politician you see... When you have to say things that people dont like, like higher prices, then always hide it in some populism like God save the King, more wind in facour on the bicycle lanes or respect to the Conde dynasty. (Now Estebananita can scratch his head and wonder what I actually mean. Is this sarcasm or what is going on) (I dont know)

Anyways, a good conde is a good guitar, I just dont understand why they have to be so hard to play and why they always need new strings to sound.... (ooooppps, now I´ve started something bad. And no, I´m not drunk or anything similar. Just babbling)

^ Back peddler!

I'm only sarcastic because sometimes I think too much earnestness about guitars is disingenuous. And it's difficult to tell without seeing someone in person whether or not they are playing with meanings and infections.

AND I'LL THANK YOU NOT TO REFER TO ME AS AN ITA.......

just kidding
if you get my emotocon

You´re right, taste is something which is difficult to discuss. I Spain they say: Para los gustos, los colores.
