Let's make with the introduction

Hi, everyone,

My name is Alan Green. I'm from Essex, in the UK, and I've been hanging around here the last couple of days getting the feel of the place. I've not covered much flamenco work, so I'll be lookng to pick up on some not so complicated technical stuff.

I've been playing guitar for 31 years. These days I concentrate on playing Classical (although the Les Paul and the Marshall are always ready to use at the drop of a hat), and teach a little. I'm also a moderator over at GuitarNoise.com.

Welcome Alan. I play Telecaster thru a marshal or a Laney....or use to play..

I couldn't agree less. Welcome to the forum!

I stupidly stuck someone's Ibanez headstock into a ceiling fan and I'm sure you can guess what happened next. Had to buy it off him of course. Am I in the club then?

Anyway who says that flamenco is highly technical? It can be so simple but yet keep the very essence of flamenco. It's all about the rhythm forms, keep within them and have fun. No need for machine gun rasguedos, lightning picado, perfect tremolo etc.

Btw, I thought you were the luthier Aaron Green LOL. My mistake..

Hi Alan

I used to play a cherry red Les Paul custom on a Marshall top. You know the old one with the valve rectifier. Great sound. Later on I got more heavy with a homebuild guitar and a JCM 800 stack. Actually a quite ugly sound, but the 8 12" celestion speakers moved a lot of air, which turned me on for a while.

All the electrical stuff got sold, I took my 7 years of musical vacation, and started playing flamenco 3 1/2 years ago. Discipline is an important word.

Hi Alan, welcome to the forum.

As its confession time, I used to own a pink Ibanez RG550, and still have the recordings of Van Halen and Steve Vai covers to prove it

Although I still own one electric (Yamaha), I haven't played it for about two or three years. This flamenco stuff is a tad demanding

Welcome Alan,
I'm also an old rocker and I still have my first good electric guitar-a left handed 1976 stratocaster. Last year I got a new electric for the first time in more than fifteen years -one of the last prodution model left handed PRS custom 22's - it rocks!

Welcome Alan,
I too (like so many of us here) progressed from playing an electric to playing Flamenco. Perhaps this is because "Rock" and "Metal" music tend to be more prevalent than Flamenco in some places. I hope you will enjoy the challenge of learning Flamenco music. But don't neglect your LP... variation is a good thing! There's a time and place for Flamenco and a time and place for Rock.
