"aguas" - can anybody tell... 

Hi All,

could anybody tell me something about these marks in tonewood which luthiers in spain call "aguas". what is it? has it something to do with the quality of the wood? thanks a lot

I think thats what English call medular rays in Spruce soundboards.

It means that the soundboard is cut correctly, but you can also find soundboards with little or no medular rays which is cut correctly. Then its equally good.

So conclusion is that medular rays are not bad but not the only sign of quality.

Yeah, thats bearclawing.

IMHO, it doesnt do any good or any harm to the quality of the top. It looks great though. (just my personal opinion. )
