hi i am searching a book which explains how to build a flamenca, incl. explanations about different woods, finishes, etc... could you recommand any book? thanks.

La Guitarra Española - Características y Construcción - José Villar Rodríguez. CLIVIS Publicaciones 1985. EN ESPAÑOL!! For Concert Guitar mostly, but also Flamenco construction. Very in-depth regarding Tonality, volume and projection analysis, etc.
I have only glanced through this books, and they look very good. But if you can't find them or language is a limitation, I find that any books for classical guitar building give you the principles of construction. Jointing, planing, measurements, etc. And this forum will provide excellent information regarding flamenco. Plans,Tonewoods, Working the top, back and sides, bridge making, fretboards and frets, finishes, etc.

Here are three for classical guitar construction. The most basic procedures are pretty much the same, but you will have to learn the many differences in classical and flamenco guitar construction.
Classical Guitar Making: A Modern Approach to Traditional Design by John S. Bogdanovich
Classic Guitar Construction by Irving Sloane
Roy Courtnall "Making Master Guitars"
Many luthiers feel the Sloane book is somewhat outdated. The Courtnall book is expensive, but considered very good.

Those books all have good information and the John Bogdanovich book is about $30.00.
Slaone's problem is he wants you to soak the ribs, mostly that's a bad idea and not necessary. And he assembles the guitar in a strange order. Other than that there is stuff to see. Reading all those books and then comparing the information is good. Then you can ask about construction sequences and get a handle on the names of the parts of the guitar. Sloanes book is often in public libraries and Bogdanovich's book and Courtnall's are available through Amazon.
The principles in those books can be adapted to make a flamenco and with a few glances at some plans for flamenco guitars. The best thing is to see some very good flamenco guitars and measure them and look inside them. Feel how the top flexes.

thanks a lot guys. i ordered the courtnall book and i will go to a guitar building workshop by andres marvi. i will let you know what i think about the book, when i am through.

I'm seriously contemplating studying with him for at least 2 weeks this summer when I can get some vacation time from work. Wonder if that'll be enough time to build a guitar.
