As you may or may not be aware, the cost of this forum has been born by Simon. Not only has he busted his tail to give us a nice friendly home, but put up $500 out of his own pocket. IMO we need to do the right thing and get him paid back.
I have been working with Tom (Elzurdo) to set up a collection site for donations. You can send a check direct to Tom in Texas or you can use his company PayPal account and he will forward the funds direct to Simon. For you non-US folks, PayPal should work great. If you have not used PayPal before, I highly encourage you to do so (very easy and secure). When you send a check or use PayPal, let Tom know that it is for the site donation so he can keep the funds straight. You can get his mailing address and PayPal info at www.lafalseta.com.
The last time I checked, we had 52 members. If we take Simon out, that leaves 51, so if we all kick in $10, we are at our goal. I don’t want to put any pressure on anyone. I know some of you are students and don’t have the dough, so no problem, but I don’t think $25 to $50 will break many of us. Think of it like public TV, if know one steps up to pay, it goes away!
Ok, here’s the deal you can’t turn down.
For every $10 donation, I will personally send you a set of slightly used strings (brand and tension at my discretion). Some of the D strings may be broken, but what the hell, we don’t play that sissy classical stuff. You can get by with five.
For every $25 donation, you will get the latest release of Ron and Slim Whitman’s hit duo CD titled “Okkie from Jerez”
And for every donation of $50 or more, not only will you receive the hit CD from Ron and Slim, but for a limited time only (or until we run out), you will also receive an autographed picture of Merle, his six wives, and all twenty five of the youngans. You heard me right! Don’t pass this offer up!
So what are you waiting for? Operators are standing by. Call now.
Thank you
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
Count me in!! I will get a check off to El Zurdo tomorrow.
Uh, Phil, you can make that 7 wives, I just picked up another last week (plus her 3 young uns)...I got 3 wives to go before I meet my allocated sum... (why do these women of mine always complain that I want so much nooky)!!??
What do I get for my donation? I don't want no stinkin picture of myself!!
If Simon can let me know his address (via email if he doesn't want to disclose it on the Net...as I have done and since been visited by various mass murderers and asylum seekers and the odd stray cat in the dead of night), then I can send him a cheque. This may be the easiest way for UK viewers. That's how I work my FM site. I totally agree that since Simon is not running this site as a commercial enterprise, we should at least reimburse him for his out of pocket expenses. Unfortunately, I cannot reimburse him for his usual hourly rate of $500 per hour he's used to for his cuishy number at Microsoft.
Just submitted my contribution to LaFalseta. Thanks everyone for making this a great place to visit daily. And special to thanks to Simon for everything you've put into making this site happen.
Im in. Thanks to everyone for making this site what it is and a special thanks to Simon for reaching in to his pocketbook to make this possible. Merle: you can come knocking at my door any day so long as you explain to me how to keep even one of thos eight wives happy.
Thanks for your donations, all helps to keep us going and it indicates your level of satisfaction without being asked too often. Keep it coming , post those thoughts and invite some friends.
Thanks Jon and speaking of which I need to set up a PayPal account for this site, to sell Tom's handbooks and accept donations. But I have been maxed out on a huge project at work with little time to do much else than practise, eat and sleep. Finished today, so I should be on the case soon.
Simon, You didn't send me your home address, so I reactivated my Paypal account which I've only ever used to sign up for Dimitri's site. Can Zurdo tell me how I make a contribution?
I must say, I'm not too happy dealing through Paypal. It seems really popular in the States, and I'm sure it must be OK, but I'm not all that happy about Paypal having the right to withdraw any quantity of money from my credit card on their own initative. If any errors occur, they seem rather reluctant to discuss the matter, the complainant receiving only automated responses. While this may not be a problem in the United States, it does raise serious issues when dealing with International Law and users outside the U.S.
As I said before, I'm pretty sure the system is generally OK but a visit to this site generally put me off somewhat.
