Ramon Sanchez Gomez

This is just new news for me. Hope everyone in the foro also knew about his passing. Alas, i feel a pinch of sadness to my flamenco soul.

descanse en paz, amigo

He really looks a lot like Paco.....I was shocked, actually. Ramon Algeciras is the eldest brother of PDL and Pepe de Lucia

Hmm..I didn't think so.

I met him backstage in 1971 in Madrid and my impression was that he looked more like the early Rock & Roll stars, like Gene Vincent/Eddie Cochrane or even (the British) Billy Fury.

I like Ramon's stuff a lot.

cheers,

Ron

My flamenco guitar instructor, maestro, and doyenne of the Washington, DC flamenco community, Paco de Malaga, told me about it when it occurred two years ago. Paco was a personal friend of Ramon de Algeciras (having studied at a young age under Ramon and PDL's father). Apparently Ramon died of lung cancer, like so many other flamenco greats (Camaron and others) who have passed on. Constant smoking seemed to be an occupational hazard for flamencos of that time, and perhaps still is for some. It's a shame to see such talent cut down earlier than it needs to be.

Cheers,

Bill
